Wednesday, March 31, 2021Anne Dickson is working hard to bring joy to the residents of Pittsburgh with pop-up flower displays.Florists have been hard hit by the pandemic. With major events being canceled, a lot of work and profit has dried up. However, one Pittsburgh florist, Anne Dickson, has decided to put her skills and time to good use.Inspired by fellow florist, New Yorker Louis Miller, who’s been creating some stunning “flower flashes” to brighten up New York City, Dickson decided she wanted to spread some floral joy in her own community, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.She started by sharing her gratitude with health workers for all their hard work. So the owner of Fox and the Fleur florists went along to Shadyside’s Family House, where patients and their families can stay together. She brought some bright blooms to decorate the facade of the house with an impressive installation. Use the map to follow the 'Floral Trail' as you walk past the stunning creations, displayed outdoors for all to enjoy. Be sure to adhere to social distancing best practices as you enjoy your self-guided stroll.Fluers de Villes takes places at various times of year in cities across the globe, from London to Seattle, as well as in several Canadian cities. Other Fleurs de Villes events have been curated around Vancouver over the past few years, though this is the second time there's been a Christmastime display. Wednesday, March 31, 2021I can’t wait to gain more over time.”Born in Syracuse, Rae moved to southern California with her mother at the age of four, returning to CNY each year to visit family and friends.The florist discovered her interest in design at the age of 20 while working at a beachside hotel in California.“We would receive a beautiful floral arrangement for the lobby weekly, and something just clicked in me that designing was something I wanted to pursue,” she said. “From there I traveled to LA and San Francisco, taking course after course on designing and also working in shops and design studios. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.FOX13's Lauren Coleman chose Mason’s Florist, one of the oldest Black-owned flower shops in Memphis.Tucked in the 3100 Block of Park Avenue in East Memphis is a flower shop, but it’s not just any shop.Mason’s Florist is one of the oldest Black-owned flower shops in the Mid-South.“We are a full-service flower shop,” designer and driver Patricia Williams said.“We do flowers for all occasions: funerals, weddings, get-well, anniversaries. We are just all-around florists.”From eight in the morning to five in the evening, the family is hard at work pumping out on average more than 200 orders a week.“We work as a team, and we know that we are here to offer a service,” Williams said.“We get our orders together, and everybody knows whatever their role is.”The shop opened in June of 1977 and has been in the family for more than 40 years.The store now sits in its third location.“My mom worked for Newman Florist on Lamar for many years,” Williams explained.“She envisioned having her own business, and she started out down on Park in that little strip mall.
