Tuesday, February 21, 2017WBNG)-- Local businesses were hard at work making sure everyone could have a nice Valentine's Day.A common theme for February 14 is of course the chocolate and flowers.Chocolates by Leopold in Johnson City and Woodfern Florist in Binghamton make sure they are prepared for such a busy yet exciting day."Valentine's is definitely one of the busiest days of the year," said Chocolates by Leopold Store Manager, Sandra Short. "We will see probably at least five to ten people per day leading to valentines than on a typical day." "The most popular thing is for men to come in and put the box together exactly with the things that she likes," said Short."It's very exciting. We have lots of customers that have never visited us and lots of loyal ones over the 39 years we have been in business. It's great to see everyone that comes in," said Woodfern Florist Owner, David Yacaginsky. "We are preparing several months in advance, we are placing our orders, we are also receiving things throughout the weekend we work."For some Chocolates by Leopold customers, the candy has a sentimental meaning."My husband and I have driven for years to Montrose to go to Leopold's for candy for all the holidays... http://www.wbng.com/story/34506414/valentines-day-crowds

Thursday, February 04, 2016If flowers could sing, they’d sound like Underhill Rose.Rich in harmonies if not in gold, Underhill Rose will plant their seeds of songs on Feb. 6 at Johnson City’s Willow Tree Coffeehouse and Music Room. Flourishing stories from the pages of their lives will follow. It’s who they are, one song at a time.“We never set out to do anything that sounds like anything else,” said Eleanor Underhill, by phone from her home in Asheville, North Carolina. “We play the instruments we play and write songs from the heart.”Delve into their three albums. From their first, 2011’s “Underhill Rose” through last year’s “The Great Tomor-row,” songs like generous chapters of autobiographical detail emerge in storytelling fashion.“We typically write songs in that Joni Mitchell way of ‘here’s what’s going on inside my head,’” Underhill said. “Here’s what’s going on in our world the way we see it. You’re going to learn a lot about us.”Take their aforementioned first album.“It’s quite obvious I was in a tumultuous relationship – as well as with our second album (2013’s “Something Re-al”),” she said.Revelations include “Thunderstorms” (“…the pain is all that’... http://www.heraldcourier.com/community/underhill-rose-sings-songs-from-the-heart/article_85fd4910-cb57-11e5-9ebe-eb12891fb2a1.html
