It was recognized by the public as the best, winning the best florist category in the 2020 WRAL Voters' Choice Awards.The company has been around for more than 100 years, since the Fallon family migrated to Raleigh in 1919 and began growing their own flowers in a series of greenhouses near Oakwood Cemetery.In 1920, the Fallons opened a retail shop on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, where they sold flowers for decades until they moved into the current building at 700 Saint Mary's St., which was originally a Piggly Wiggly.The business was eventually sold to the Brown-Wynne family and is now owned by the McCarthy family. The longest-working employee started helping in the greenhouses 45 years ago and still works at the Saint Mary's Street location.Frank Campisi has managed that location for 20 years. Dobbe-Maher, who is from the Netherlands, moved to Baltimore in the 1990s when she married. Long before she opened her shop, she trained under European master florists in the Netherlands, Germany and England, and brought to her designs a distinctive European aesthetic.She told one customer today that she plans to move to Holland, but not before saying goodbye.“I would like to invite all of my customers to come and give me the opportunity to thank you for all you did for me and my business,” she wrote in her Facebook letter.“We may not be able to hug, but we can smile at each other above our masks. Anne Dickson is working hard to bring joy to the residents of Pittsburgh with pop-up flower displays.Florists have been hard hit by the pandemic. With major events being canceled, a lot of work and profit has dried up. However, one Pittsburgh florist, Anne Dickson, has decided to put her skills and time to good use.Inspired by fellow florist, New Yorker Louis Miller, who’s been creating some stunning “flower flashes” to brighten up New York City, Dickson decided she wanted to spread some floral joy in her own community, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.She started by sharing her gratitude with health workers for all their hard work.
