Native to West Africa, the Amaryllis can last more than two weeks. It’s often associated with strength because it’s tall and sturdy, and it can actually last even longer in a vase than when planted.CelosiaA summer bloom, Celosia is another top pick for Sarah. It can run the color spectrum from blood red to goldenrod, and it looks like ocean coral or something that jumped out of a Dr. Seuss story. It’s a member of the Amaranth family and sometimes lasts over two weeks.EryngoMattie Bush, owner of Amelia’s Flower Truck in Nashville, TN, is big on Eryngo. An eye-catching flowering herb, it’s bluish-purple, prickly looking, and resembles a thistle. Also referred to as Flat Sea Holly, Eryngo has an incredibly long vase life, sometimes lasting well over two weeks. We are grateful to all our sponsors:LimoniumLimonium is another one of Mattie’s choices. Also known as Sea Lavender, even though it has no relation to lavender at all, Limonium looks more fragile than it is. Often used for bouquet filler, Limonium can last one to two weeks, and it retains its color when dried out.Magnum MumsMagnum Mums round out Mattie’s top three long-lasting flowers. An oversized chrysanthemum with hundreds of petals, the beautiful bloom is an impressive flower that can last up to two weeks.RanunculusLauren is a fan of using Ranunculus for long-lasting arrangements. These beautiful flowers look like they’re crafted out of tissue paper. They resemble mini roses in bloom, making them a popular choice for wedding bouquets. 10 Best Spring Flowers to Plant of Display - Gotham MagazineWednesday, March 31, 2021
Tulips grow best with full or afternoon sun and water weekly. The tulip planting process begins in November, so if you want a simple but beautiful display, your best bet is to stop by your nearest florist.DaffodilsDaffodils are an easy perennial flower grown in most regions of North America, excepting the hottest and most humid. If planting, begin in the winter so blooms can arrive at the start of spring. Water when the weather is dry. If kept in a vase, they should be kept alone, as their stems release a liquid that can wilt other flowers. We recommend a bouquet of golden ducat, petit four and rip van winkle - all types of daffodils.HyacinthsKnown for their intense fragrance and bright colors, Hyacinths are the perfect spring flower. They do well in full sun and require frequent watering if there's no regular rain. They come in a wide variety of colors, from Blue Jacket, to blue-purple, Carnegie, pure white, City of Haarlem, buttery yellow, Delft Blue, soft blue, Jan Bos and fuchsia.ForsythiaBelonging to the olive family, Forsythia are low-maintenance flowering shrubs that grow quickly in an upright, arching form. They can grow to be up to 10 feet tall, so if planting, choose your spot wisely. Forsythia grow best with at least six hours of direct sun and moderately moist soil, so only water if experiencing a drought.RhododendronRhododendrons are often tubular, funnel or bell-shaped and very fragrant. These beauties do well in climates with adequate rainfall and moist springs and summers, so water pretty frequently if you live in a dry area. Place your rhododendrons in a slightly shaded area, but avoid deep shade or full sun.See also: The 5 Best Yoga Mats to Unroll in 2021PeoniesPeonies typically loom from late spring to early summer, depending on your location and variety. WRAL Small Business Spotlight: Fallon's Flowers celebrates 100 years in Raleigh - WRAL.comWednesday, March 31, 2021
By Jessica Patrick, WRAL multiplatform producerRaleigh, N.C. — Fallon's Flowers isn't just the oldest florist in Raleigh -- it's very likely the oldest in North Carolina, owners say. It was recognized by the public as the best, winning the best florist category in the 2020 WRAL Voters' Choice Awards. The company has been around for more than 100 years, since the Fallon family migrated to Raleigh in 1919 and began growing their own flowers in a series of greenhouses near Oakwood Cemetery. In 1920, the Fallons opened a retail shop on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, where they sold flowers for decades until they moved into the current building at 700 Saint Mary's St., which was originally a Piggly Wiggly. The business was eventually sold to the Brown-Wynne family and is now owned by the McCarthy family. The longest-working employee started helping in the greenhouses 45 years ago and still works at the Saint Mary's Street location.Frank Campisi has managed that location for 20 years. He said, while the ownership has changed, the family focus remains the same."I talk to customers who... https://www.wral.com/wral-small-business-spotlight-fallon-s-flowers-celebrates-100-years-in-raleigh/19595753/

How to care for gifted Easter flowers - WTOPWednesday, March 31, 2021
Soon, it will be time to hit your local florist or grocery store to pick out flowers for your holiday celebration — whether you’re seeing someone in person, or simply dropping off well wishes. This year, florists have seen more curbside deliveries and loose flowers as gifts, opposed to traditional centerpiece orders for family dinner tables, but the desire for customary flowers like Easter lilies, tulips and hyacinths has not changed.“Potted Easter lilies and tulips are very popular this time of year,” said Missy Willson, owner of My Enchanted Florist in Sandy Spring, Maryland. “Stock flowers in lavenders, pinks and soft pastel shades are also popular. It’s a very fragrant flower and the colors are perfect for Easter.”Willson said if you end up with potted lilies, they like to be in bright light, but they need to be kept in a cool area.“The soil should be dry to the touch — because if you overwater them, you’ll kill the plant. Leaves will start to turn yellow and then they start to die.”Other popular flowers available for Easter include daffodils, hyacinth, grape hyacin... https://wtop.com/holidays/2021/03/how-to-care-for-gifted-easter-flowers/
