Historic Daytona Beach flower shop suffers extensive damage after electrical fire - WKMG News 6 & ClickOrlando

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – If you live in Daytona Beach, the retro green and pink sign outside Zahn’s Flowers will be a familiar sight. Owner Leah Mihalko said it’s been a part of the community for nearly 100 years, originally owned by the Zahn family.“My grandparents bought the store from the Zahn family in the 70s... I’m a third generation owner,” said Mihalko. “This place is my whole life. We grew up here and now I bring my child here.”Early Sunday morning, a fire broke out at the store. Mihalko said the cause was an old electrical outlet. She says a bystander saw the smoke and called for help.“We have cameras inside the store. When I heard about the fire, I immediately pulled out my phone to check the cameras. I could see the smoke billowing in... Then you see the parade of firefighters running in,” said Mihalko. No one was inside or harmed during the fire.Firefighters told the owners that the fire started on the second floor. They haven’t been using it for some time because it was under... https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2020/12/07/historic-daytona-beach-flower-shop-suffers-extensive-damage-after-electrical-fire/

Dayton Tennessee, pop up flower shop – The Triangle - Triangle

Sunday, February 28, 2021

Written by: Eleanor Sanford, staff writerDAYTON, Tenn. – Love is in the air as Valentine’s day is quickly approaching. Every store in Dayton, Tennessee, is filling up with heart-shaped items and red roses. I recently met a local business owner, Lacey Raburn, who owns Raburn Acres. Raburn Acres is a local flower farm and florist that has been in Dayton for the past three years. I met Lacey at a pop-up flower shop hosted at Jennings Coffee & Tea. She brought in six buckets filled with colorful bouquets, and people began rolling in. Within 30 minutes, she had sold out. Lacey has a pop-up shop every Thursday morning from 10:30-12:30 at Jennings. She and her family have a farm where they plant and grow all their own flowers, which she crafts into some amazing bouquets and sells to the community. Lacy is currently working on creating her own workshop, she used to create all the bouquets from her kitchen counter, but as of January, she said, “I went from selling 15-20 bouquets each week to selling 50-60... http://www.bryantriangle.com/news/dayton-tennessee-pop-up-flower-shop/

Grieving residents pour into Boulder flower shop to show support for victims - The Denver Channel

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

BOULDER, Colo. — Flowers arrangements and roses are moving fast at Boulder Gardens Florist as people pay their respects for the lives lost in the King Soopers mass shooing in Boulder Monday.Joshua Dusk is a florist at Boulder Gardens Florist. He’s been there for about a year but has 22 years of experience. He moves quickly with each arrangement, but behind every perfectly placed flower, there is intention.“You know, you can’t take it [the pain] away, but I get to be in a position where I can help that healing process with creative energy,” Dusk said. “I like using different colors to heal.”Calls have been pouring into Boulder Gardens Florist for arrangements and deliveries to the police departments, the memorial and the families of the victims.Heidi Lunsford, an employee at the flower shop, says flowers help people showcase their support and cope with the tragic loss at a time when many feel helpless.Aaron Pilling dropped by the shop and picked up ten red roses — one for each victim — and two bouquets of flowers. He plans to attend a vigil with friends.“I think I fee... https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/grieving-residents-pour-into-boulder-flower-shop-to-show-support-for-victims

Texas Florist Who Admitted to Being in Pelosi’s Office Wants Case Moved from D.C. Because of ‘Cancel Culture’ - Law & Crime

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Washington, D.C. because of “cancel culture.” The defense for Texas florist Jenny Louise Cudd, who was on video happily admitting to being in the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, asserted authorities were creating the “illusion” of a conspiracy between her and Eliel Rosa by linking their cases.“According to the Government’s Statement of Facts, the two were seen on security footage walking into the building, walking around, and walking out,” attorney Marina Medvin said in a filing Wednesday. “There is no evidence of communications or a plan between the two to enter the Capitol. Instead, the evidence is purported to be that they were at the same place, at the same time, followed a crowd into the open doors of the Capitol building, then walked out. They didn’t take anything, they didn’t break anything.”Cudd was among rioters raiding the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, after then-President Donald Trump continued to lie that he actually won the 2020 presidential election. The invaders postponed but did not prevent Congress for counting electoral college votes weighing in favor of the real winner, President Joe ... https://lawandcrime.com/u-s-capitol-siege/texas-florist-who-admitted-to-being-in-pelosis-office-wants-case-moved-from-d-c-because-of-cancel-culture/

After the shooting, a boy gave flowers to workers at King Soopers stores near the attack - The Washington Post

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

He purchased dozens of carnations in a variety of bright colors and paid for them with money he earned from dog-walking. When JJ told the florist his plan to give a flower to every store employee, she offered him a generous discount. That’s when he turned to his mother and excitedly said, “kindness is spreading!” Witmer recalled. They did several laps around the supermarket and handed out one flower to every employee. With each flower, JJ shared an earnest message.“We just wanted to let you know you’re appreciated. Thank you for being here today. It must be hard,” he said to each employee.“At first, I was a little bit timid because I wasn’t sure how they would react,” JJ said. But then he saw that employees instantly responded with overwhelming gratitude.“They were really thankful. Lots of them were crying and giving me first bumps and air hugs,” JJ said. “It made me feel so good. I was filled with joy and happiness.”While chatting with the store employees, “they said they were kind of scared to go do their job,” JJ added. “I think we made the right decision because it made a lot of people feel good.”Although Witmer followed closely behind her son, “I just stood in the background and let him do his thing,” she said. “This was his idea, and I was just there to support him.”After about 45 minutes in the store, they moved on to another King Soopers location in Reunion, a community in Commerce City, which is where the Witmer family usually gets their groceries.“We know most of the employees there,” JJ said.He purchased three dozen red roses that the store’s florist also offered at a heavily discounted price. Again, he circled the supermarket, handing out flowers to every employee in sight.“He even waited for a staff meeting to end so he wouldn’t miss anybody,” Witmer said.Marsha Esparza-Barnabe, 58, who works in the pharmacy at the Commerce City King Soopers, was surprised when JJ approached her with a rose. The atmosphere in the store was “very somber,” she said. “Everybody was talking about [the shooting], and it was just very sad. It could have been our store.”Then JJ appeared, rose in hand. The small gesture of kindness was so overwhelming, Esparza-Barnabe said, that “I actually turned and walked to the back and cried.”Not far away, in the baking aisle of the supermarket, Zerelda Todd — a King Soopers employee of 46 years — was on her knees, stocking the shelves with tubes of frosting.“All of a sudden, I heard this quiet voice go ‘Ma’am,' ” Todd, 64, said. ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/03/25/king-soopers-shooting-flowers-colorado/
