Chrest said.Chrest said although the position can be demanding, one of her most meaningful goals as a florist is to make each customer smile.“It’s a lot of hard work, especially during those extremely long days; But the results achieved at the end of the day are advantageous,” she said.The same went for Niki Nygaard of Flower Central in Minot as her business has been busy during the pandemic since people are steadily sending flowers and plants to their loved ones. “During the week of Mother’s Day, I stood on my feet for over 80 hours designing flowers,” said Nygaard. “Being a florist is fun as it keeps you busy, but it’s very demanding as the holidays are crazy.”When operating during non-holidays, Flower Central regularly staffs nine employees. During holidays Nygaard said she fluctuates due to high demand. To meet the needs of the customers, she employs 16 workers to have more hands available for deliveries and curbside assistance. For example, in the week of Mother’s Day, she had six vans running concurrently each day to help deliver to customers.Following strict guidelines during the pandemic, Flower Center has limited the shop to two to three customers inside at a time. Upon arrival, if customers decline curbside assistance, they are offered rubber gloves or hand sanitizer before entering the shop.“We have to change how we do things now and then,” said Nygaard. “Like when we hand out deliveries, we call ahead to have the customers meet us at the door. We set down the order on their doorstep, so there’s no hand-to-hand contact.”Flower Centrals’ hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.Flower Central, Peony Petals Floral & Gifts and Perfect Petals are gearing up for Memorial Day and the festivities of graduations. With major events being canceled, a lot of work and profit has dried up. However, one Pittsburgh florist, Anne Dickson, has decided to put her skills and time to good use.Inspired by fellow florist, New Yorker Louis Miller, who’s been creating some stunning “flower flashes” to brighten up New York City, Dickson decided she wanted to spread some floral joy in her own community, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.She started by sharing her gratitude with health workers for all their hard work. So the owner of Fox and the Fleur florists went along to Shadyside’s Family House, where patients and their families can stay together. CLICK HERE FOR MORE.FOX13's Lauren Coleman chose Mason’s Florist, one of the oldest Black-owned flower shops in Memphis.Tucked in the 3100 Block of Park Avenue in East Memphis is a flower shop, but it’s not just any shop.Mason’s Florist is one of the oldest Black-owned flower shops in the Mid-South.“We are a full-service flower shop,” designer and driver Patricia Williams said.“We do flowers for all occasions: funerals, weddings, get-well, anniversaries. We are just all-around florists.”From eight in the morning to five in the evening, the family is hard at work pumping out on average more than 200 orders a week.“We work as a team, and we know that we are here to offer a service,” Williams said.“We get our orders together, and everybody knows whatever their role is.”The shop opened in June of 1977 and has been in the family for more than 40 years.The store now sits in its third location.“My mom worked for Newman Florist on Lamar for many years,” Williams explained.“She envisioned having her own business, and she started out down on Park in that little strip mall. Grids have to be taped on top of colorful vases to hold up flowers during transportation.
