Here are dozens of garden plants that deer and rabbits will turn up their noses at - The Denver Post
Tuesday, January 30, 2018Trees include Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, lodgepole pine, piñon pine and common hackberry. Other plants include lavender, echinops, delphinium, goldenrod, chokecherry, chocolate flower and Apache plume.“The caveat on all that,” McMillan says, “is that if deer are hungry, they’re going to eat.”Another thing to watch, if you live in a populated area, is that some plants are unattractive to deer and rabbits, because they’re poisonous. Children may not be able to figure this out in the way wildlife does.If you’re especially interested in xeric plants that discourage deer and rabbits, the High Country Gardens catalog — highcountrygardens.com — is a good source.Fences make good neighborsWhen these strategies fail, the Flower Bin’s Morris says fencing is the best way to keep critters out.“It has to be several feet to keep out a rabbit,” he says. “It has to be pretty sturdy. They can knock it down. People typically use chicken wire or fencing like that.”And don’t neglect the bottom of the fence.Remember, Peter Rabbit squeezed under the garden gate.

Learn from the pros how to best cope with new drought generated pests and diseases that have cropped up in the last year or two. This includes the dreaded mesquite borers that are killing trees all over the valley. Tuesday, March 28, 2017And that is really freeing.”Recently, she traveled to San Carlos, Arizona, to connect with skateboarders on an Apache reservation with her friend, Magda Love. The two had met when Love, a painter who does vibrant jungle murals with inspiring feminine compositions, was looking for female skaters to collaborate with. RELATED: The most inspirational photos we’ve seen of girls in action sportsThe women hit it off immediately and worked together on several projects before embarking on this most recent adventure.“We just wanted to bring our passion to a place that needed it. The reservation is underserved and not getting the support they need. We just wanted to bring a little light and love. We found Doug Miles, who owns Apache Skateboards,” says Dutton.Dutton and Love collaborated with Miles, who is also a muralist, focusing on colorful native portraiture and social-issue-focused pieces.“There was no budget for the trip,” says Dutton, “so Magda and I raised the money through a GoFundMe campaign. We didn’t know what to expect, but it was an amazing experience.”Cody Umans made an edit of the whole experience:Now, Dutton is preparing to tackle the next chapter of her life as she moves to Wyoming. She and her boyfriend are hitting the road in a truck with a makeshift bunk, headed for Jackson Hole.“It’s as good as Vail or Aspen with half the pretentia,” Dutton laughs. http://www.grindtv.com/skateboarding/this-nyc-florist-absolutely-rips-on-a-skateboard/
