Wednesday, March 31, 2021BOULDER, Colo. — Flowers arrangements and roses are moving fast at Boulder Gardens Florist as people pay their respects for the lives lost in the King Soopers mass shooing in Boulder Monday.Joshua Dusk is a florist at Boulder Gardens Florist. He’s been there for about a year but has 22 years of experience. He moves quickly with each arrangement, but behind every perfectly placed flower, there is intention.“You know, you can’t take it [the pain] away, but I get to be in a position where I can help that healing process with creative energy,” Dusk said. “I like using different colors to heal.”Calls have been pouring into Boulder Gardens Florist for arrangements and deliveries to the police departments, the memorial and the families of the victims.Heidi Lunsford, an employee at the flower shop, says flowers help people showcase their support and cope with the tragic loss at a time when many feel helpless.Aaron Pilling dropped by the shop and picked up ten red roses — one for each victim — and two bouquets of flowers. In addition to being a Sweetwater florist, she handles the market’s social media channels, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.“We built this business from the ground up and seeing it come to life is mesmerizing,” Izzy Cline said. “As a young woman working for a woman-owned business it feels powerful ... I am my mom’s biggest fan and there is absolutely nothing she can’t do.”Christy Metz, Sweetwater’s head florist and creative director, echoed the same sentiments as Cline’s daughters.“She has really great relationships and cares about everybody, and that just comes across,” Metz said of Cline. “She’s also great at delegating and finding out peoples’ strengths and using those to build a strong team.”Metz, 57, was a florist in Chicago for over a decade before returning to her hometown a few years ago. The florist-to-the-stars told WEHOville that he gave special care to create an arrangement appropriate for each location.“I always check out the surrounding elements for inspiration,” said Buterbaugh. “For example, I thought it’d be fun to incorporate pink pampasin front of Pink Dot. I was inspired by the yellow building at the Sunset Plaza sign so we incorporated stunning yellow forsythia, yellow acacia, yellow lipstick pincushion protea and lots of soft pinks for an opulent, springtime vibe.
