Wednesday, December 02, 2020

Faced with a worsening COVID-19 situation, the Swiss canton of Geneva entered semi-confinement on Nov. 2. All restaurants, bars and barbershops are now closed, but “essential” shops, such as grocery stores, supermarkets and flower shops, can remain open. Why are florists considered “essential businesses,” one may wonder?A recent survey conducted by JardinSuisse showed that although most of the celebrations and festivals have been canceled, 70 percent of the country’s florists said that their sales were better in the first half of 2020 than in the same period of last year.Migros, Switzerland’s largest supermarket chain, said that its flower sales in the first six months of this year were 20 percent higher than the previous year.Meanwhile, another recent survey conducted by PostFinance, the financial services unit of Swiss Post, found that Swiss consumers’ spending on clothing and footwear has fallen by 50 percent and some 80 percent, respectively, since the country adopted containment measures to fight the virus in March.“Flowers help peop... http://famagusta-gazette.com/2020/11/19/florists-symbols-of-hope-deemed-essential-businesses-in-virus-stricken-geneva/

Everyone sells it."The shop has operated in the same space since it was opened by Pat Ribar in the early 1980s. Living Colour florist appears on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway - Warrington Guardian

Sunday, February 28, 2021

A FLORIST from Stockton Heath’s Living Colour was seen by millions at the weekend when she appeared on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Debs Gaskell, who has worked at the London Road business for 14 years, was in a feature called ‘Thank You, Miss’. The producers of the hit show arranged a number of surprises for teacher Kath Crawley, who was retiring from St Thomas’ School in Wigan where Debs went. She said: “At first I was invited to a Facebook group and then it developed into a telephone conversation when I said I was a florist. “It was at that point that they told me they were a researcher for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. “I started in the same year that the teacher did so they were quite excited by that.” It was arranged so that one of Kath’s surprises was flowers saying: ‘Thank You, Miss’. So a camera crew filmed Debs creating the gift at Living Colour to mark her retirement after more than 30 years at the school. Debs added: “It was only a short clip but ... https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/19114453.living-colour-florist-appears-ant-decs-saturday-night-takeaway/

Relationships are blooming, and businesses that serve them are booming - New York Post

Sunday, February 28, 2021

Here’s how biz-savvy folks in the heart-and-soul sector are flourishing.Petal to the mettleSince launching at the end of October, personalized online florist Floracracy has seen its business explode. “Our amazing team of artists and letter writers take stories sharing all different kinds of love — romantic love, parental love, love toward friends and even that special gratitude in business — and use their fluency in the language of flowers to create visual experiences that share those stories,” said founder and CEO Sarah-Eva Marchese, of the company she founded that ships lush, personalized bouquets to the lower 48 states. But the road has not been without bumps.“We were supposed to launch formally in April 2020,” she said. “However, we had to shut down our warehouse for a few months. We ran ‘pay what you can’ campaigns, where people literally could send flowers for zero dollars. We had people gift teachers… We had people give to families who had lost someone from COVID-19.”The team has grown by 60 percent since the fall, and they’ve experienced a 25 percent repeat purchase rate. No surprise given that during a time of intense isolation, the personalized heartfelt notes that accompany the blooms go a long way.“Flowers have historically been our ‘language’ when we could not be together, or we simply didn’t have the words to ex... https://nypost.com/2021/02/07/businesses-that-rely-on-relationships-are-booming-amid-pandemic/
