In the Know: Ruth Messmer Florist moves in Fort Myers for first time in 62 years - The News-Press
Tuesday, November 19, 2019Florist co-owners Heather Messmer, daughter of the late Ruth Messmer, and Jessica Gnagey, a granddaughter, moved the shop to 1850 Boy Scout Drive, just west of U.S. 41 and east of Sam Galloway Ford on the far-right corner Sunview Business Center. They are in the former location of Golf Shoes Plus and have signed a five-year lease. The shop began on the front porch of Ruth Messmer’s home in 1952 on the northwest corner of Page Field near what is now the La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery. It also had a satellite location for about 25 years at The Atrium off College Parkway, a building that was demolished earlier this year to make way for the new FineMark Bank headquarters. Next week, Nov. 11-17, the new location will celebrate its grand re-opening with daily specials on different flowers. “The building was 62 years old, so it was getting harder to maintain,” said Gnagey, floral designer and store manager, of one of the reasons for moving. Heather Messmer sold the two original buildings for a combined $600,000 in 2014, with the flower shop downsizing and continuing to lease back half the space for the past five years. An online traffic school owns the space now. ... https://www.news-press.com/story/news/2019/11/05/ruth-messmer-florist-moves-fort-myers-first-time-62-years/4075874002/
