Susan Walsh, AP×Mississippi florist to help decorate White House for holidaysSusan Walsh, APWEST POINT, Miss. — West Point florist Scott Reed never thought his first trip to Washington, D.C. would be for such an esteemed reason — to decorate The White House for Christmas.Reed, owner of Petal Pushers, which provides an “out of the ordinary” shopping experience in floral arrangements, gifts and antiques, received official correspondence from The White House that he was accepted into the 2017 holiday volunteer program.“I’ve always worked with design,” Reed said. “And I just remember hearing about this program years ago and thinking ‘how neat would it be to be a part of something like this?’”The program, he said, is divided between two teams — a preparation team that volunteers the week before Thanksgiving and a decoration team that volunteers the week after Thanksgiving to prepare the interior of the White House for the holidays. His desire to be a part of the decoration process is bipartisan.Reed first applied to the volunteer program, unsuccessfully, during George W. Calif. flower shop with no connection to Capitol riot flooded with threats, negative reviews - SFGate

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Not long after pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, the angry yet puzzling calls started rolling into Becky’s Flowers, a florist in Roseville. But it didn’t end there. Over the past week, the family-owned business in Placer County has been subjected to hundreds of negative reviews on Google and Yelp, in addition to countless threatening comments on Facebook and Twitter. All of them were directed toward Jenny Cudd, a woman who was arrested Wednesday in connection with the riots and charged with two misdemeanors for entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct. Cudd was identified after she posted a video on Facebook bragging about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office being broken into during the riot, reports the AP.  She also happens to be the proprietor of a florist called Becky’s Flowers in Midland, Texas — the source of the confusion for Aaron Alberti, who has owned and operated the Roseville Becky’s Flowers since 2004. Now, he’s trying to clear the air in order to save his business. https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Beckys-Flowers-Roseville-mistaken-Capitol-rioter-15871654.php

Budding florists get day in the sun in new reality series - Your Valley

Sunday, January 17, 2021

P) — They designed epic floral statements in limited time with some very intense judges, but the contestants on the new reality competition series “Full Bloom” did not wilt under pressure.Ten budding florists from around the United States compete in wildly creative floral design challenges on the eight-episode HBO Max series. It debuts Thursday on the streaming service.Contestants accept two themed challenges per episode -- with the luxury of choosing from the best blooms -- and spin flowers into art. The show lifts the curtain on the high-pressure world of floral design and what it takes to be successful. It’s not as easy as it may seem.“It’s not just about who’s making the most beautiful bouquet. That is part of it. We all have to make beautiful things for our clients. But it is so much about the journey of being in the floral industry, which people just do not understand," judge Elizabeth Cronin said. While it may appear that florists just “play with flowers,” she said, the work can and does lead to injuries, and the show reveals “the real deal of what it is to be a florist.”Cronin is one of the show’s three judges, along with Simon Lycett and Maurice Harris, all well-known in the floral design world and with some famous clients. https://www.yourvalley.net/stories/budding-florists-get-day-in-the-sun-in-new-reality-series,200666
