Fleurs de Villes: Free self-guided walk through downtown Vancouver's Christmas floral trail - Vancouver Is Awesome
Wednesday, March 31, 2021December with a stroll in downtown Vancouver highlighted by 30 beautiful fresh floral installations.It's the second annual Fleurs de Villes Noel Vancouver, a holiday celebration featuring top florists from around the city and their stunning displays, set up along Robson and Alberni streets. Use the map to follow the 'Floral Trail' as you walk past the stunning creations, displayed outdoors for all to enjoy. Be sure to adhere to social distancing best practices as you enjoy your self-guided stroll.Fluers de Villes takes places at various times of year in cities across the globe, from London to Seattle, as well as in several Canadian cities. Other Fleurs de Villes events have been curated around Vancouver over the past few years, though this is the second time there's been a Christmastime display. Wednesday, March 31, 2021The series appears daily at therepublic.com.Name: Dawn SheetsCity/Town: IndianapolisAge: 93Died: April 16Dawn Sheets never hesitated to help a friend in need.Sheets, a lifelong florist, had no formal medical training, but when her friend Maxine Hessong needed kidney dialysis treatment, Sheets taught herself how to operate a dialysis machine so Hessong’s husband Dale could continue working.For more than a year, Sheets made three to four trips a week to Methodist Hospital to care for her friend, offering support and companionship during Hessong’s procedures. Eventually Hessong came home, and Sheets continued to run her machine, even showing Dale the necessary steps in the process.“She cared about people,” daughter Lori Arment said. “She cared about people’s feelings and their well being.”“That’s one of the highlights of her life to be able to help in that way at that time,” daughter Cathy Hiatt said.Helping others, faith and family were the pillars of Sheets’ life. Her compassion was matched by her late husband Ken’s, who became her primary caretaker as she dealt with dementia until he died in December.In early April, Dawn Sheets developed a cough and began running a temperature. She had a COVID-19 test on April 10. On April 13 the test came back positive for COVID-19. Wednesday, March 31, 2021JJ spends time volunteering to help neighbors with chores such as putting out their trash.With money he made as a dog walker, JJ Witmer bought dozens of flowers for King Soopers employeesA florist at the Brighton King Soopers offered JJ a discount to purchase dozens of flowers, which he spent about 45 minutes sharing with every employee at the store, telling him that he appreciated their hard work. They shared hugs and smiles, and some of the employees teared up.Jody and JJ then went to the Commerce City store, at which they're regulars and know many of the workers.Another shopper stopped JJ and said, "I'm embarrassed to share this, but I just cried listening to you. My wife is a manager of a King Soopers, and this touches me a lot today." JJ handed that man a flower as well.When they got home, Witmer said JJ was happy to have helped dozens of employees that day. Valley Florist in E. Templeton receives $10K in startup money - Worcester Business Journal
Wednesday, March 31, 2021Valley Florist and Greenhouse in East Templeton has received a $10,000 small business loan from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp., the Fitchburg organization announced Friday.Brendan Loughman, owner of the company, received the loan, with funds earmarked for startup costs and inventory.Loughman has an advanced certification in floral design, as well as years of experience as a floral designer, according to a NCMDC press release.
