Wednesday, March 31, 2021A mother of three boys who previously worked for Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana, Dickson says she came up with the idea for the installations after seeing florist Lewis Miller Design’s “Flower Flash” project in New York City. In February, she installed her first display, wrapping garlands of flowers around the columns of Shadyside’s Family House — which provides a “home away from home” for patients and their families seeking medical treatment in Pittsburgh. “To all of the healthcare workers and all of the patients and their families, this one’s for you!” Dickson wrote on Instagram of the project. Later that month, she spruced up her hometown area, coating a light pole and corner on Brilliant Avenue in Aspinwall with flowers. In early March, she struck again, creating an enormous bouquet atop a recycling bin on Penn Avenue and 21st Street in the Strip District. Beside the display, she used sidewalk chalk to quote French artist Henri Matisse’s famous line, “There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” Dickson told the Post-Gazette the recycling can project was particularly inspired because the already-cut flowers — from supplier BW Wholesale Florist in the Strip District — would have been thrown away had she not repurposed them. Fayetteville florist delivers flowers to families for soldiers overseas - WTVD-TV
Wednesday, March 31, 2021FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- As floral shops scramble to prepare and deliver orders for Valentine's Day, one Fayetteville flower shop is bringing smiles from loved stationed overseas.Owens Florist says they will fulfill up to 300 orders on Valentine's Day alone of both local and orders coming from deployed Fort Bragg soldiers.The shop's owner, Barbara Colman, said it's a special way to help soldiers stay in touch with their loved ones, even when they are far away from home."There's a lot of preparation, a lot of orders for flowers that need to be placed months ahead of time," said Colman.For the full staff on hand, it's more than just a busy flower delivery day."We love just giving that hometown feel that they aren't that far away. Eventually Hessong came home, and Sheets continued to run her machine, even showing Dale the necessary steps in the process.“She cared about people,” daughter Lori Arment said. “She cared about people’s feelings and their well being.”“That’s one of the highlights of her life to be able to help in that way at that time,” daughter Cathy Hiatt said.Helping others, faith and family were the pillars of Sheets’ life. Her compassion was matched by her late husband Ken’s, who became her primary caretaker as she dealt with dementia until he died in December.In early April, Dawn Sheets developed a cough and began running a temperature. She had a COVID-19 test on April 10. On April 13 the test came back positive for COVID-19. In addition to being a Sweetwater florist, she handles the market’s social media channels, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.“We built this business from the ground up and seeing it come to life is mesmerizing,” Izzy Cline said. “As a young woman working for a woman-owned business it feels powerful ... I am my mom’s biggest fan and there is absolutely nothing she can’t do.”Christy Metz, Sweetwater’s head florist and creative director, echoed the same sentiments as Cline’s daughters.“She has really great relationships and cares about everybody, and that just comes across,” Metz said of Cline. “She’s also great at delegating and finding out peoples’ strengths and using those to build a strong team.”Metz, 57, was a florist in Chicago for over a decade before returning to her hometown a few years ago.
