Steamy romance novelist Judith Krantz dies at 91 | People National - Norfolk Daily News
Tuesday, June 25, 2019Fritz the Cat," helped translate his wife's work for TV.The author was also famous for living a glamorous life that paralleled that of her characters. Her home in Los Angeles' exclusive Bel Air community featured a soundproof writing room flanked by an immaculately kept garden. In her closet were many of the same designer-label clothes the characters in her books wore. The eldest of three children, Krantz was born Judith Bluma Tarcher in 1928 in New York City. Her father owned an advertising agency, and her mother worked as an attorney. Her brother, publisher Jeremy Tarcher, married the late ventriloquist Shari Lewis.Growing up, Krantz was a precocious student at New York's exclusive Birch Wathen school, once describing herself as the youngest, smartest and shortest girl in her class. After skipping two grades, she enrolled at Wellesley College at age 16.She was also by her own account an indifferent college student. She said she only enrolled at Wellesley "to date, read and graduate" and claimed to have set a record for her dorm by once dating 13 different men on 13 consecutive evenings."I got only one A-plus, and that was in English 101," she told The Boston Globe in 1982. "I had a B-minus average in English, my major, and made C's and C-minuses in everything else. But I didn't come here to get good marks."When she could earn no better than a B in a short story class, she decided she wasn't good enough to write fiction."Just in time for my 50th birthday, I discovered that I could write fiction. My husband had urged me to try fiction for 15 years before I did," she was quoted in a profile on Wellesley's website in 2001. "I believed that if I couldn't write 'literature,' I shouldn't write at all.""Now, I would say to young women, do something you have a true feeling for, no matter how little talent you may believe you have," she added. "Let no masterwork be your goal — a modest goal may lead you further than you dream."Krantz had met her husband through her high school friend Barbara Walters, who introduced the two in 1953. They married the following year."I fell in love with him the minute I saw him," she once said. Her husband died in 2007 at age 83. The couple had two sons, Tony and Nick, a stockbroker, and two grandchildren.Krantz's family requested that donations be given to the Library Foundation of Los Angeles in lieu of flowers. Her memoir, "Sex and Shopping: The Confessions of a Nice Jewish Girl," was published in 2001 and it reflected on her penchant for telling sex-drenched tales about the pretty and the privileged."In my opinion, there are two things women will always be interested in — sex and shopping," she said in 1994. "And if they're not, they've left out a large part of the fun in life." #inform-video-player-3 .inform-embed { margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 20px; }... http://norfolkdailynews.com/news/national/people_national/steamy-romance-novelist-judith-krantz-dies-at/article_89845384-9634-11e9-8095-7f79dc29a2f3.html

Tuesday, August 15, 2017Pollack said. After canvassing the area, the criminal complaint said, police found a man matching the description of the person in that surveillance video at Bel Air-Miramontes Park, which is two blocks away from the scene of the crime. The suspect is Travese Spragg. Pollack said he doesn't know Spragg and has no idea why he'd want to start the business on fire. But Pollack said they do frequently see homeless people walking nearby. "They spend some time back here they spend some time in the front of our building overnight," Pollack said. "We've talked to the city about it, but I know they're so overwhelmed with the problem. They've told us there's not much they can do." Pollack said employees have been using their own cars to make sure no orders need to be cancelled, and they've seen an outpouring of support throughout the whole ordeal. "It's been great to know that you have a lot of friends in the community," he said. http://www.kob.com/albuquerque-news/peoples-flower-shop-arson-fire-arrest/4535305/
Kim Kardashian's Birthday: Armed Bodyguard Delivers Flowers As She Stays In Hiding - Hollywood Life
Tuesday, November 15, 2016So safe that an ARMED GUARD was needed to delivery flowers to her home for the special occasion. The guard appeared toting a gun on Oct. 21 outside of Kim’s Bel Air residence. Poor Kim has pretty much gone MIA since returning to the states after being robbed in Paris on Oct. 3. We completely empathize with her decision to keep security airtight. But is this a little much?Kim has yet to find a way to escape the terrifying incident she went through just a few weeks ago, and we don’t blame her. It will take a while before she can feel totally safe and comfortable again, even in her own home, as the robbery took place in a hotel room where she presumably felt completely safe too. We just hate to think that she was still so frightened on her birthday that she had a hard time enjoying anything, let alone the delivery of a beautiful bouquet of flowers, without extra security. CLICK HERE TO SEE PICS OF THE ARMED BODYGUARD DELIVERING KIM’S BIRTHDAY FLOWERS.Kim Kardashian Robbed In Paris — SEE PICSAlthough, we know one thing that she was able to enjoy without any added security necessary — the adorable montage of old family videos that husband Kanye West, 39, put together for her as a birthday surprise. “Kim was totally surprised by Kanye’s sweet, sweet video,” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “She doesn’t even know how he found all of that old footage. When he showed it to her, she completely broke down in tears, she was so touched.” Aw, Kim... http://hollywoodlife.com/2016/10/22/kim-kardashian-flowers-delivered-armed-bodyguard-birthday-hiding-pics/

But as the white roses were delivered on Friday to the couple's Bel Air mansion, it wasn't just any flower delivery ... the van had to park at the end of the driveway, buzz in and then an armed guard escorted the flower dude up the long driveway to the back door. Sidenote -- check out baby Saint keeping watch with his nanny as the guy packing heat brings in the beautiful arrangements. http://www.x17online.com/2016/10/kim_kardashian_flower_delivery_security_gun_birthday_photos_102216

‘Master florist’ Haruko Adkins, 90, had a passion for flower arrangements and tennis - The Washington Post
Monday, August 24, 2020She would say that some were “too edgy compared with her formal training,” Morhart said. [Those we have lost to the coronavirus in Virginia, Maryland and D.C.]He said Adkins’s arrangements were unique because she “understood the idea of negative space.”“Others fill up all the space” in a vase, he said, whereas Adkins “understood that you didn’t have to crowd things in. She was an artist. She was definitely talented.”Morhart recalled Adkins as “totally sharp,” saying, “You would guess she was 80.” She was an avid tennis and ping-pong player and played both games well into her 80s, her friends said. When she and a friend visited the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., Morhart said, the trip was a “thrill for her.” Born in Nagoya, Japan, Adkins studied the art of floral arrangement and earned a four-year degree as a “master florist,” her friends said. She married Earl A. Adkins, a criminal investigator in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps. With his work, the couple traveled and lived in several places, including San Francisco and Germany, before settling in Arlington. He died in 1999.Adkins had a large group of friends and was known for helping others. If someone else wanted flowers she planned to use in an arrangement, she would happily give them away, Morhart said.“She was very, very generous,” Morhart said. “She was always willing to say: ‘Help yourself. Take that if you need it.’ She had a very sharing nature.”Adkins also did volunteer projects, including making sweaters and bags to carry food for those in need. She was once named Volunteer of the Year at Goodwin House.Valerie Burke, the chief philanthropy officer at Goodwin House, said Adkins also enjoyed working at a thrift shop on the property as a volunteer and was good at making displays.“She loved getting to know people and helping them find just the right trinket,” Burke said.
