'Always in Bloom,' flowers 'Blossom' for moms, 'Eden' during a pandemic - Sippican Week

Monday, August 24, 2020

For Mother’s Day, Braga is making deliveries as usual, but hopes people will consider having flowers delivered earlier than Saturday because shops are still short-staffed.In Mattapoisett, Holly Turner of Blossoms said she hasn’t adjusted the store’s hours like many other small businesses have. The owner “figured we were done” after Governor Baker’s closure of non-essential businesses, but noticed that people were still calling for orders. After closing four days, Turner opened back up for curbside pickup, this time with the help of her daughter Holyn and their new “manager” Lexi, the family’s border collie.Turner said that the phone has been ringing constantly for Mother’s Day orders, especially because her daughter has helped promote the shop on social media while not doing schoolwork.Like Turner, Monteiro’s daughter has also helped bring in new customers with Instagram and Facebook. The marketing will also help for Mother’s Day, the holiday that she said is the “mother of them all” for florists.Customers have appreciated both florists during this time, and the feeling is mutual.“They’re thanking me, when I’m thankful for them,” said Turner.Braga said that “people are so happy and grateful” that they can buy herbs and vegetables from her shop because customers are eager to be outside in their gardens. https://sippican.theweektoday.com/article/%E2%80%98always-bloom%E2%80%99-flowers-%E2%80%98blossom%E2%80%99-moms-%E2%80%98eden%E2%80%99-during-pandemic/47776

A flower shop grows again in Mattapoisett

Tuesday, July 31, 2018

MATTAPOISETT — Mattapoisett has some of the best private and public gardens in the tritown area but until recently it didn't have a florist. That changed early this month.Holly Turner opened "Blossoms Flower Shop" on July 2, at 23 County Road (Route 6) in a spot that used to house a convenience store."It's a full service florist," Turner said in her new whitewashed shop facing Route 6. "You can come in and buy one flower. You can buy a bouquet, silks, or arrangements. We do weddings and funerals. We deliver to all the surrounding towns. We can send flowers wherever you like."But it's not the first time Turner has had a floral shop in town. Thirteen years ago, she closed a like-named shop that was located next to Seahorse Liquors on Route 6, because she had gotten married and was about to become a mother. She decided to devote herself to child rearing and took a job with a CPA firm. But her lifelong passion for flowers and floral design kept ebb... https://sippican.villagesoup.com/p/a-flower-shop-grows-again-in-mattapoisett/1768052

Turning a new Leaf: Flower/gift shop helps to revitalize Akron's West Hill neighborhood - Akron Beacon Journal

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Katie Byard   For the Beacon JournalMushrooms, blueberry vines and even small not-yet-ripe tomatoes have ended up in Akron florist Matthew Caleb Moore’s designs. Now he’s arranging for his flower/gift shop — Leaf Home and Blooms — to bloom in a much bigger space, and hopefully, he says, help to revitalize the stretch of West Market Street in West Hill.“There is a lot of potential here,” Moore said, noting the more developed Highland Square commercial strip just a little west on West Market.Leaf, previously called Every Blooming Thing, will move in early November to 449 W. Market St. in the site of the former longtime Stagecoach Antiques store. For now, while that space is being renovated, Leaf is operating out of the bottom of a house tucked behind the onetime antiques shop. Leaf moved to West Market from 1079 W. Exchange St., a little more than a mile away, late last year. Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan plans to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the new location Nov. 10.“We are hoping we spark development here... connect this part of West Hill with Highland Square more an... https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/local/2020/09/30/leaf-flower-gift-shop-helps-revitalize-west-hill-akron/3561752001/

'Essential' businesses: Florists, boat sellers and toy makers - The Daily Herald

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Some not mentioned in the list have come up with their own interpretations. Do florists delivering flowers qualify as “agriculture”? Washington Floral Service, a wholesale firm with warehouses in Tacoma and Spokane, applied for and received a state exemption, Chris Berglund, a company vice president, told The Herald. “We’re essential,” Berglund said. Many of his customers — retail florists — are also seeking exemptions. “From what we’re hearing, it’s a 50-50 split on whether florists are getting an exemption,” Berglund said. “It seems to depend on whether they say they’re a flower shop or agriculture.” “If you can do a food delivery, you can just as easily do a floral delivery,” he said. Can yacht and pleasure boat dealers fit into the transportation category — as “marine consultants”? Harry Walp, president and CEO of Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, said it’s not yet clear if boat sellers are essential businesses. Essential marine industry jobs include consultants, naval architects and surveyors, but the state order doesn’t specify whether that applies to recreational or commercial segments of the industry, Walp said. “Several of my associates are taking a liberal interpretation of ‘consultants’ and make the argument that yacht brokers fit that description,” Walp said. “If so, yacht sales could be deemed essential. My concern is that a yacht broker potentially places himself, his family and his associates in harm’s way if he resumes sales activities. The yacht brokerage industry is taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and the vast majority of our members would prefer to err on the side of caution.” About that Funko order … Meanwhile, hundreds of U.S. retailers are now focused on e-commerce delivery because retail outlets are shuttered. To fill orders, warehouses and distribution centers are open for business. Are those essential?
