Monday, April 27, 2020BELOIT (WREX) — Many events like birthday parties, anniversaries and showers are all postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. But a small business in Beloit is hoping to bring a little bit of celebration to your yard. Dayton Bennett became a balloon artist for one key reason."That's still the heart of it. It's all about bringing joy and smiles and laughter to people," said Owner of Dabadooya and Company Dayton Bennett.That reason is what led Bennett's entertainment business in Beloit to join a nationwide initiative."Beloit needs this. Rockford needs this. Friday, January 29, 2016Rose M. Barraco, 99, formerly of Beloit, WI, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation, Stoughton, WI. Rose was born on September 14, 1916 in Beloit Hospital to Dominick and Minnie (Pizzaloto) DiGirolamo. She attended South Beloit School until she moved to Beloit in 1931. Rose was married to Joseph Barraco on June 5, 1937 in St. Thomas Church. He predeceased her on August 4, 1976. Rose was a kind and gentle women who loved her home and family. She loved to entertain and “drop-ins” were always welcome from friends, relatives and student friends of her children and grandchildren. Holidays were a special time spent in the preparation and enjoying many of the traditions of her Sicilian heritage. For many years Rose hosted a Christmas party with a surprise Santa visit who distributed gifts to all the ladies and toys to all the children present. Joe and Rose enjoyed traveling to many National Beer Conventions, to Europe and especially to Marsala, Sicily where many relatives remain. Under this circumstance, Curren said, “Working as a florist has been wonderful, challenging, exhausting, inspiring, hectic, fun, maddening, and fantastic!” Orders as of right now are piling in for Curren and her staff, causing everyone to feel overwhelmed. As it is described as part of the job as a florist, understanding customers mean well and only want to stay local. With a minimum of $75 for fresh arrangements and $40 for plant deliveries, Halsted Flowers plans to make multiple rounds a day for their customers. Even though hours of operation are limited each day, the employees are finding themselves working around the clock in order to finish their customer’s requests. However, you may not get exactly what you want.Like many things these days, it stems from the COVID-19 pandemic.Cheryl White, owner of The Fiddly Fig on Holmes, explained the impact on her supply chain."A lot of flowers come from all over the world, usually flown in. There's no flights or very few flights, and the flowers can't get here," she said.The Fiddly Fig just reopened after a four-week closure. The business has a limited crew working staggered shifts to get orders ready for Mother's Day.
