Biz Buzz: Local garden center relocates after 31 years of business - East Idaho News
Wednesday, March 06, 2019Ammon New greenhouse at Sunnyside Gardens includes 9,000 square feet of retail space for annual bedding plants Courtesy photo AMMON – A garden center that’s done business in Idaho Falls for 31 years has relocated to a new location in Ammon. Sunnyside Gardens officially opened at 3240 E. Sunnyside Rd. Feb. 4 on a 5-acre parcel. The new property includes 4,000 square feet of retail space and another 9,000 square feet of retail greenhouse space. Though the old location at 2366 E. Sunnyside Rd. had more acreage, Aaron McCracken, the owner, tells EastIdahoNews.com their new store accommodates future growth and traffic flow. “We started very small (at our old location) and added buildings and additions onto the store (as needed). It’s been nice to know what we needed down there and be able to build it into one facility with room to grow,” McCracken says. The retail greenhouses at the old property were divided into two buildings, McCracken says, which made customers flow in two different directions. The new spot also includes eight production greenhouses, an entrance more accessible to traffic and a paved parking lot. Sunnyside Gardens is a full-service garden center that caters to the do-it-yourself homeowner. One of the more popular items sold is annual bedding plants, but vegetables, trees, shrubs, soil, and a full array of fertilizers and seeds are also offered. “Everything you need to create a landscape, grow flowers or a garden yourself,” McCracken says. One thing that sets Sunnyside Gardens apart from competing businesses is the plant material that is grown on-site, according to McCracken. Tuesday, May 23, 2017IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Mother's Day- it's one day a year where we can show our moms just how loved they are. This year the National Retail Federation estimates people will spend about $186.39 on to make their mom's feel special.Better Business Bureau's Samantha Gillihan says because of this, it only leaves more chances for scammers to take advantage of people. "Maybe you're running out of time maybe your mom lives across the country so maybe they'll get your money and mom will be disappointed," said Gillihan. There are a myriad of scams out there especially when it comes to shopping online. Some newer scams though might even take advantage of people living away from their parents. In some cases, third-parties advertise cheaper air fares "you want to make sure that you get that confirmation through the airline," said Gillihan "anytime you're doing one of these super discounted airfares- use a credit card because they have that fraud protection in case it's not."This is just on... http://www.localnews8.com/news/scam-alert-last-minute-gift-shopping-for-mothers-day-prime-time-for-scammers/492991493

RVC florist fills window displays with 'holiday pandemic' scenes - Newsday
Sunday, January 17, 2021People passing by Masters and Company Florist in Rockville Centre will see a holiday window display not unlike those found in New York City. Its decked-out windows are inspired by both the holiday season and the pandemic. "I feel like everything is so surreal and depressing, especially during the holidays," says owner Laurie Speziale, 60. "Why not create something a little whimsy?" The scenes created by the Woodmere resident include a Santa Claus sporting a face covering and a Christmas tree with medical masks mixed in among its ornaments. "I always do [the windows] up quite elaborate, for every season and holiday," Speziale says of her decorative handiwork. This year, COVID pulled the plug on the events that typically carry her business such as weddings, bar and bas mitzvahes and other parties, which gave Speziale some extra time to beef up her holiday display. "I really wanted... https://www.newsday.com/lifestyle/fashion-and-shopping/rockville-centre-masters-and-company-florist-1.50091128

'Essential' businesses: Florists, boat sellers and toy makers - The Daily Herald
Sunday, January 17, 2021Some not mentioned in the list have come up with their own interpretations. Do florists delivering flowers qualify as “agriculture”? Washington Floral Service, a wholesale firm with warehouses in Tacoma and Spokane, applied for and received a state exemption, Chris Berglund, a company vice president, told The Herald. “We’re essential,” Berglund said. Many of his customers — retail florists — are also seeking exemptions. “From what we’re hearing, it’s a 50-50 split on whether florists are getting an exemption,” Berglund said. “It seems to depend on whether they say they’re a flower shop or agriculture.” “If you can do a food delivery, you can just as easily do a floral delivery,” he said. Can yacht and pleasure boat dealers fit into the transportation category — as “marine consultants”? Harry Walp, president and CEO of Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, said it’s not yet clear if boat sellers are essential businesses. Essential marine industry jobs include consultants, naval architects and surveyors, but the state order doesn’t specify whether that applies to recreational or commercial segments of the industry, Walp said. “Several of my associates are taking a liberal interpretation of ‘consultants’ and make the argument that yacht brokers fit that description,” Walp said. “If so, yacht sales could be deemed essential. My concern is that a yacht broker potentially places himself, his family and his associates in harm’s way if he resumes sales activities. The yacht brokerage industry is taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and the vast majority of our members would prefer to err on the side of caution.” About that Funko order … Meanwhile, hundreds of U.S. retailers are now focused on e-commerce delivery because retail outlets are shuttered. To fill orders, warehouses and distribution centers are open for business. Are those essential? Include your florist in planning - Powell Tribune
Sunday, January 17, 2021Other holidays, too can impact the cost of the blooms; rose prices are often more volatile around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.The second step, as important as the first, is finding your wedding florist. Communicating with your florist is paramount because when they understand what you want, it is far easier to accomplish the look you are seeking. To make a selection, check out previous work the business has done and read their reviews. Like most businesses, florists have specialities and a style all their own. “We like to have a month’s notice,” said Kerri Kolb, from Rayven’s Flowers and Gifts in Powell. She said some of the farms that sent flowers to her suppliers had stopped production during COVID lockdowns, so some particular species might need to be changed a bit. When you are researching everything else, take note of arrangements you like on wedding sites, Pintrest. Take photos of those to your florist while remaining flexible and allowing the florist to guide you. Try and be familiar with popular wedding flowers, and decide if you want them to be just beautiful or fragrant as well. Kolb said she really likes to see the photos brides have selected.“I always tell them to bring in the pictures, like if they use Pintrest. Then we work from that, within their budget,” Kolb said. Drawing on your wedding colors to develop the theme of your floral arrangements can help narrow down the overwhelming number of choices. Not all flowers come in all colors, eliminating some options.Remember the bride’s bouquet sets the tone for the other flower arrangements, and will appear in the photos. The attendants’ flowers should incorporate some of the same flowers, to create a pulled together look. Trends in th... https://www.powelltribune.com/stories/include-your-florist-in-planning,28880
