Wednesday, March 31, 2021LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Valentine's Day hustle at Susan's Florist gets started well before the calendar turns to February.Myriad roses need to be ordered for the storefront at 2731 Preston Highway. Grids have to be taped on top of colorful vases to hold up flowers during transportation. And, of course, flowers must be arranged in said vases for the special occasion.And though this year's Valentine Day is anomalous for multiple reasons — it's on a Sunday, a non-workday for many, and in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic — the 73-year-old flower shop is ready to do what it has done for nearly a year now: stay nimble and make special deliveries for its many customers.But like other holidays, COVID-19 continues to throw a wrench in everyone's plans."We really don't know what to expect," said Jessie Smith, lead designer for Susan's Florist. Wednesday, March 31, 2021High School and after getting married, moved to Lewes. Ms. Layton enjoyed being a homemaker and embarked on a career in floral design working for McNichol Place, and then spent many years at Windsors Florist. Later in life she enjoyed working with extended family at Millmans Hardware, and there she was able to showcase one of her many talents - wood crafts. Lorraine had a lifetime passion for crafts, art, drawing, and woodworking. She was generous and kind and loved to make Christmas ornaments, wooden toys and decorations, and other intricate handmade crafts for friends and family. When she wasn't busy working and crafting, Ms. Layton was spending time with those she loved most. Lorraine was a dear friend to all, and a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many. In addition to her parents, Ms. Layton was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Layton. She is survived by her son, Eddie Layton (Beverly) of Lewes; her daughter, Jeanne M. Fischer of Lewes; her son, Richard Layton of Lewes; her daughter, Judy Bundick (Lee) of Lewes; and her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes. At that point, she put flowers aside, but found they kept coming back to her: “I did my own wedding flowers, and flowers for friends.” Finally, at her mother’s encouragement, she decided to go for it, and Bubbles’ Blossom Design was born in time for Mother’s Day 2018.When Lawrence and her husband Jordan moved to Clinton in October 2016, she realized a florist shop was something the area needed.“At first I thought I’d research it for a couple of years, see how it goes, see how much interest there was, but then I decided just to jump in and do it. 11-year-old boy gives flowers to King Soopers employees - ABC News
Wednesday, March 31, 2021JJ spends time volunteering to help neighbors with chores such as putting out their trash.With money he made as a dog walker, JJ Witmer bought dozens of flowers for King Soopers employeesA florist at the Brighton King Soopers offered JJ a discount to purchase dozens of flowers, which he spent about 45 minutes sharing with every employee at the store, telling him that he appreciated their hard work. They shared hugs and smiles, and some of the employees teared up.Jody and JJ then went to the Commerce City store, at which they're regulars and know many of the workers.Another shopper stopped JJ and said, "I'm embarrassed to share this, but I just cried listening to you. My wife is a manager of a King Soopers, and this touches me a lot today." JJ handed that man a flower as well.When they got home, Witmer said JJ was happy to have helped dozens of employees that day.
