Monday, June 27, 2016

In Ocean Beach, The Coffee Method is going on three years in business subletting space from longtime OB florist Floral Fantasia. Coffee Method serves coffee roasted by Sorrento Valley's Zumbar Coffee & Tea, and in this instance the flower shop is on the left side of the shop.Coffee Method owner Robert Stewart hadn't intended to open his coffee shop alongside a florist, but says it's proven a good match, with customers of one business becoming customers of the other. He also points out sensory benefits. "It actually makes [the coffee shop] better because there's something pretty to look at every day," he says, adding, "It smells good too. CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Clarksville floral designer is taking her talents to the White House. Out of thousands of people who applied, Kassie Peterson was chosen as one of the florists to join the White House Christmas decorating crew."It was a humbling thing because I enjoy it so much and they always say find something you would do for free as a job," Peterson said.Peterson opened her floral shop "Kassie Kay Floral Designs" back in June on Franklin Street in downtown Clarksville during the midst of the pandemic. "It's been very challenging," said Peterson. "We had to dial back a lot of our workshops and in-person events."She says going to the White House for this opportunity was a dream come true."This year it was one of my reach goals for 2020," Peterson said. "I try to be a goal setter, it keeps me on task and this was one of my reach goals for 2020 so I was ecstatic when I heard the news."Peterson will leave for D.C. on Thanksgiving day. She will be assisting the first lady in preparing the White House for the holidays, spending three days, 11 hours each decorating."Super honoring and the idea that people come from all over the country and give time an... https://www.newschannel5.com/news/clarksville-florist-heading-to-d-c-to-decorate-the-white-house-for-christmas

Include your florist in planning - Powell Tribune

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Other holidays, too can impact the cost of the blooms; rose prices are often more volatile around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.The second step, as important as the first, is finding your wedding florist. Communicating with your florist is paramount because when they understand what you want, it is far easier to accomplish the look you are seeking. To make a selection, check out previous work the business has done and read their reviews. Like most businesses, florists have specialities and a style all their own. “We like to have a month’s notice,” said Kerri Kolb, from Rayven’s Flowers and Gifts in Powell. She said some of the farms that sent flowers to her suppliers had stopped production during COVID lockdowns, so some particular species might need to be changed a bit. When you are researching everything else, take note of arrangements you like on wedding sites, Pintrest. Take photos of those to your florist while remaining flexible and allowing the florist to guide you. Try and be familiar with popular wedding flowers, and decide if you want them to be just beautiful or fragrant as well.  Kolb said she really likes to see the photos brides have selected.“I always tell them to bring in the pictures, like if they use Pintrest. Then we work from that, within their budget,” Kolb said. Drawing on your wedding colors to develop the theme of your floral arrangements can help narrow down the overwhelming number of choices. Not all flowers come in all colors, eliminating some options.Remember the bride’s bouquet sets the tone for the other flower arrangements, and will appear in the photos. The attendants’ flowers should incorporate some of the same flowers, to create a pulled together look. Trends in th... https://www.powelltribune.com/stories/include-your-florist-in-planning,28880

'Essential' businesses: Florists, boat sellers and toy makers - The Daily Herald

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Some not mentioned in the list have come up with their own interpretations. Do florists delivering flowers qualify as “agriculture”? Washington Floral Service, a wholesale firm with warehouses in Tacoma and Spokane, applied for and received a state exemption, Chris Berglund, a company vice president, told The Herald. “We’re essential,” Berglund said. Many of his customers — retail florists — are also seeking exemptions. “From what we’re hearing, it’s a 50-50 split on whether florists are getting an exemption,” Berglund said. “It seems to depend on whether they say they’re a flower shop or agriculture.” “If you can do a food delivery, you can just as easily do a floral delivery,” he said. Can yacht and pleasure boat dealers fit into the transportation category — as “marine consultants”? Harry Walp, president and CEO of Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, said it’s not yet clear if boat sellers are essential businesses. Essential marine industry jobs include consultants, naval architects and surveyors, but the state order doesn’t specify whether that applies to recreational or commercial segments of the industry, Walp said. “Several of my associates are taking a liberal interpretation of ‘consultants’ and make the argument that yacht brokers fit that description,” Walp said. “If so, yacht sales could be deemed essential. My concern is that a yacht broker potentially places himself, his family and his associates in harm’s way if he resumes sales activities. The yacht brokerage industry is taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and the vast majority of our members would prefer to err on the side of caution.” About that Funko order … Meanwhile, hundreds of U.S. retailers are now focused on e-commerce delivery because retail outlets are shuttered. To fill orders, warehouses and distribution centers are open for business. Are those essential? Clothes, handbags, outdoor gear, bedding and toys a... https://www.heraldnet.com/business/essential-businesses-florists-boat-sellers-and-toy-makers/

Calif. flower shop with no connection to Capitol riot flooded with threats, negative reviews - SFGate

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Not long after pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, the angry yet puzzling calls started rolling into Becky’s Flowers, a florist in Roseville. But it didn’t end there. Over the past week, the family-owned business in Placer County has been subjected to hundreds of negative reviews on Google and Yelp, in addition to countless threatening comments on Facebook and Twitter. All of them were directed toward Jenny Cudd, a woman who was arrested Wednesday in connection with the riots and charged with two misdemeanors for entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct. Cudd was identified after she posted a video on Facebook bragging about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office being broken into during the riot, reports the AP.  She also happens to be the proprietor of a florist called Becky’s Flowers in Midland, Texas — the source of the confusion for Aaron Alberti, who has owned and operated the Roseville Becky’s Flowers since 2004. Now, he’s trying to clear the air in order to save his business. https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Beckys-Flowers-Roseville-mistaken-Capitol-rioter-15871654.php
