Embroidery kits by Pixels and Purls- Credit: Ellie Gillard photographySoothing stitching Sara runs her embroidery business Pixels and Purls from her studio in north Norwich. She describes herself as super passionate about crafting, supporting small businesses (she runs Fierce Babe Norwich with her friend, Amber) and mindfulness. "Outside of lockdown, I love hosting craft workshops and parties and have taught 120 people the art of hand embroidery between 2018-20," says Sara. "Sadly in-person workshops are currently on hold whilst we wait for social distancing to ease enough to run them safely, but they will be back!" Sara started embroidering in January 2017."I was struggling with grief after the loss of my Stepdad and wanted a new craft to try to distract my busy brain," she says. "I could already knit, crochet and cross stitch so the obvious choice seemed to be embroidery. I was immediately obsessed as it was so mindful and freeing, but I struggled to find designs that resonated with me – more modern and alternative – so decided to just draw my own. It took a bit of practice but really pushed me to learn new stitches and think about composition, and suddenly the things I could embroider seemed endless!"Some of Sara's designs are inspired by ... https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/lockdown-2021-craft-kits-norfolk-6902710

Palmer Florist Persists Despite No Easter Church | Joliet, IL Patch - Joliet, IL Patch
Sunday, February 28, 2021JOLIET, IL —Easter Sunday is just days away and that means Palmer Florist, one of Joliet's longest running small family businesses, is usually delivering beautiful floral arrangements to several of Joliet's Roman Catholic churches. Not this year. As has been the case for the past few weeks, Joliet's churches will remain empty on Easter Sunday because of the new coronavirus outbreak. Funeral homes have also had to dramatically scale back their services. Many small businesses throughout Joliet remain shut down temporarily. Palmer Florist has been in Joliet since 1923. The third-generation small business has been at 1327 N. Raynor Ave. since 1964. Paul Palmer has run the business since 1978. He is like the unofficial mayor of Raynor Avenue. When he stands in his parking lot, several motorists who approach the stop sign in front of his business yell hello or engage in small talk with him if there aren't any other cars coming. People walking along Raynor Avenue stop to chat with him. People on bicycles wave and offer him good wishes.Losing out on the flora... https://patch.com/illinois/joliet/palmer-florist-persists-despite-no-easter-church
Relationships are blooming, and businesses that serve them are booming - New York Post
Sunday, February 28, 2021Here’s how biz-savvy folks in the heart-and-soul sector are flourishing.Petal to the mettleSince launching at the end of October, personalized online florist Floracracy has seen its business explode. “Our amazing team of artists and letter writers take stories sharing all different kinds of love — romantic love, parental love, love toward friends and even that special gratitude in business — and use their fluency in the language of flowers to create visual experiences that share those stories,” said founder and CEO Sarah-Eva Marchese, of the company she founded that ships lush, personalized bouquets to the lower 48 states. But the road has not been without bumps.“We were supposed to launch formally in April 2020,” she said. “However, we had to shut down our warehouse for a few months. We ran ‘pay what you can’ campaigns, where people literally could send flowers for zero dollars. We had people gift teachers… We had people give to families who had lost someone from COVID-19.”The team has grown by 60 percent since the fall, and they’ve experienced a 25 percent repeat purchase rate. No surprise given that during a time of intense isolation, the personalized heartfelt notes that accompany the blooms go a long way.“Flowers have historically been our ‘language’ when we could not be together, or we simply didn’t have the words to ex... https://nypost.com/2021/02/07/businesses-that-rely-on-relationships-are-booming-amid-pandemic/
