RVC florist fills window displays with 'holiday pandemic' scenes - Newsday

Sunday, January 17, 2021

People passing by Masters and Company Florist in Rockville Centre will see a holiday window display not unlike those found in New York City. Its decked-out windows are inspired by both the holiday season and the pandemic. "I feel like everything is so surreal and depressing, especially during the holidays," says owner Laurie Speziale, 60. "Why not create something a little whimsy?" The scenes created by the Woodmere resident include a Santa Claus sporting a face covering and a Christmas tree with medical masks mixed in among its ornaments. "I always do [the windows] up quite elaborate, for every season and holiday," Speziale says of her decorative handiwork. This year, COVID pulled the plug on the events that typically carry her business such as weddings, bar and bas mitzvahes and other parties, which gave Speziale some extra time to beef up her holiday display. Tributes as well-kent Largs florist and former fireman passes away - Largs and Millport Weekly News

Sunday, January 17, 2021

TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved former Largs florist after he passed away at the age of 74. Stuart Kennedy, who served the town for decades as owner of S Kennedy Florist, was also a retained firefighter locally for 12 years and one of the founding members of the Viking Festival. Born in a tenement in Glasgow, Stuart was the eldest child of Willie and Betty Kennedy and brother to Alan, Marion and Jeanne. After school, Stuart went to work as a fruit and veg buyer and soon rose up the ranks to become one of the youngest members of the executive staff at the Malcolm Campbell's where he worked. It was while employed there Stuart met wife-to-be Liz, a florist, at a staff dance. On November 1 1969 the couple married at Mossvale Church in Paisley - and in 2019 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Both Stuart and Liz were blessed with the birth of daughter Elaine in 1972 and in 1974 the family was complete after the birth of son David. In 1975, Liz’s mum and dad Bessie And Robert took them to Largs as it was Bessie's favour... https://www.largsandmillportnews.com/news/18972459.tributes-well-kent-largs-florist-former-fireman-passes-away/
