'HOOSIERS WE'VE LOST': Lifelong florist never hesitated to help those in need - The Republic
Wednesday, March 31, 2021The series appears daily at therepublic.com.Name: Dawn SheetsCity/Town: IndianapolisAge: 93Died: April 16Dawn Sheets never hesitated to help a friend in need.Sheets, a lifelong florist, had no formal medical training, but when her friend Maxine Hessong needed kidney dialysis treatment, Sheets taught herself how to operate a dialysis machine so Hessong’s husband Dale could continue working. For more than a year, Sheets made three to four trips a week to Methodist Hospital to care for her friend, offering support and companionship during Hessong’s procedures. Eventually Hessong came home, and Sheets continued to run her machine, even showing Dale the necessary steps in the process.“She cared about people,” daughter Lori Arment said. “She cared about people’s feelings and their well being.”“That’s one of the highlights of her life to be able to help in that way at that time,” daughter Cathy Hiatt said.Helping others, faith and family were the pillars of Sheets’ life. Her compassion was matched by her late husband Ken’s, who became her primary caretaker as she dealt with dementia until he died in December. In early April, Dawn Sheets developed a cough and began running a temperature. She had a COVID-19 test on April 10. On April 13 the test came back positive for COVID-19. She died April 16 at a memory care facility in Hendricks County.“When people think of Mom, they always think of Dad, too,” daughter Dianne Boyd said. “It was always Ken and Dawn, and Daw... http://www.therepublic.com/2021/03/30/hoosiers-weve-lost-lifelong-florist-never-hesitated-to-help-those-in-need/
After the shooting, a boy gave flowers to workers at King Soopers stores near the attack - The Washington Post
Wednesday, March 31, 2021He purchased dozens of carnations in a variety of bright colors and paid for them with money he earned from dog-walking. When JJ told the florist his plan to give a flower to every store employee, she offered him a generous discount. That’s when he turned to his mother and excitedly said, “kindness is spreading!” Witmer recalled. They did several laps around the supermarket and handed out one flower to every employee. With each flower, JJ shared an earnest message.“We just wanted to let you know you’re appreciated. Thank you for being here today. It must be hard,” he said to each employee.“At first, I was a little bit timid because I wasn’t sure how they would react,” JJ said. But then he saw that employees instantly responded with overwhelming gratitude.“They were really thankful. Lots of them were crying and giving me first bumps and air hugs,” JJ said. “It made me feel so good. I was filled with joy and happiness.”While chatting with the store employees, “they said they were kind of scared to go do their job,” JJ added. “I think we made the right decision because it made a lot of people feel good.”Although Witmer followed closely behind her son, “I just stood in the background and let him do his thing,” she said. “This was his idea, and I was just there to support him.”After about 45 minutes in the store, they moved on to another King Soopers location in Reunion, a community in Commerce City, which is where the Witmer family usually gets their groceries.“We know most of the employees there,” JJ said.He purchased three dozen red roses that the store’s florist also offered at a heavily discounted price. Again, he circled the supermarket, handing out flowers to every employee in sight.“He even waited for a staff meeting to end so he wouldn’t miss anybody,” Witmer said.Marsha Esparza-Barnabe, 58, who works in the pharmacy at the Commerce City King Soopers, was surprised when JJ approached her with a rose. The atmosphere in the store was “very somber,” she said. “Everybody was talking about [the shooting], and it was just very sad. It could have been our store.”Then JJ appeared, rose in hand. The small gesture of kindness was so overwhelming, Esparza-Barnabe said, that “I actually turned and walked to the back and cried.”Not far away, in the baking aisle of the supermarket, Zerelda Todd — a King Soopers employee of 46 years — was on her knees, stocking the shelves with tubes of frosting.“All of a sudden, I heard this quiet voice go ‘Ma’am,' ” Todd, 64, said. ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/03/25/king-soopers-shooting-flowers-colorado/
7 Important Things to Consider Before Ordering Flowers Online - Hurricane Valley Times
Wednesday, March 31, 2021Delivery AreaEven though online florists provide an extremely accessible flower buying experience, not every florist can ensure delivery to every single part of the US. For example, if you or your giftee live in a more isolated part of the country, like in a remote area or a rural location, florists can’t guarantee that your flowers can be delivered in the best condition. Not all florists have the same exact shipping capabilities. Some can deliver to more addresses than others, so it’s important to look at more than one online store. Before you officially place your order, be sure to confirm that the provider you want can actually send it over to your target address.2. Delivery SpeedGift giving is certainly no easy task. That’s why flowers always come in as the most reliable solution anytime you’re stuck on what to do. They make for an easy grab on a quick trip to your local florist or supermarket. However, the situation might be a little different for ordering online. That’s because not all websites can provide fast last-minute flower deliveries. If you’re running out of time and need your bouquet to be shipped as soon as possible, ensure that your selected vendor can do same-day or next-day delivery.3. Professional AffiliationThere are plenty of florists that are involved with a floral wire service such as FTD, Teleflora, and several others. These wire services are essentially established companies that work at the center of all the order exchanges and fulfillment between local florists and third-party sale agents.Additionally, many other vendors are also affiliated with other industry groups and trade organizations, such as The Society of American Florists. When it comes to picking out a vendor, it’s in your best interest to rank those that professionally affiliate with these floral wire services, groups, and organizations higher. That’s because they can signify a commitment to the craft, a level of professionalism, and heightened credibility.4. Payment OptionsNowadays, there are far more options to pay for gifts than cash alone. That’s especially true for online purchases. While you can always use the most popular method of using a credit card to pay for your flowers, some flower delivery services have actually expanded the number of payment methods they can accept. How about that for inclusivity and convenience? If you’d rather pay with PayPal, Bitcoin, or in whatever alternative way you prefer, you can scout out some of the flower vendors that can accommodate you the best.5. PricingWithout a doubt, pricing should be one of the top factors to consider when ordering flowers on the web. That’s where you may need to step in with a little research, because not every flower vendor will offer the same prices. Some may be conveniently cheaper than others, but never sacrifice good quality for a low bargain. Melbourne Florists Feel the Force of the Pandemic - PRNewswire
Wednesday, March 31, 2021MELBOURNE, Australia, March 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- One industry that has been severely affected by prolonged and snap lockdowns is Australia's florists. Local Melbourne flower shops, such as Amazing Graze Flowers, have been forced to discard blooms they could have otherwise sold.Continue ReadingFlower Delivery in MelbourneWhile other industries have also been affected, the florist industry, in particular, is a slave to the nature of its product. Once flowers have been cut, they have a short shelf-life where they either need to be sold or discarded. Lockdowns have put Amazing Graze Flowers and many florists into a less-than-desirable situation as they were forced to get rid of stock ordered in anticipation of flower delivery in Melbourne. The halt of events and weddings also had repercussions for local florists, reducing one of their most profitable revenue streams for close to a year. Now that gatherings are permitted, there are those who are making big orders again. However, local florists say that many have decreased their budget for flowers, opting to have a scaled-back version of the event they'd once imagined. On the other... https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/melbourne-florists-feel-the-force-of-the-pandemic-301243018.html
