The florist-to-the-stars told WEHOville that he gave special care to create an arrangement appropriate for each location.“I always check out the surrounding elements for inspiration,” said Buterbaugh. “For example, I thought it’d be fun to incorporate pink pampasin front of Pink Dot. I was inspired by the yellow building at the Sunset Plaza sign so we incorporated stunning yellow forsythia, yellow acacia, yellow lipstick pincushion protea and lots of soft pinks for an opulent, springtime vibe. She offers retail walk-in options, botanically inspired gifts, houseplants and full-service flower arrangements for events big and small. Flowers (the most requested stems are peonies and dahlias) are sourced from all over the world, including her farm outside of the city. It was recognized by the public as the best, winning the best florist category in the 2020 WRAL Voters' Choice Awards.The company has been around for more than 100 years, since the Fallon family migrated to Raleigh in 1919 and began growing their own flowers in a series of greenhouses near Oakwood Cemetery.In 1920, the Fallons opened a retail shop on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, where they sold flowers for decades until they moved into the current building at 700 Saint Mary's St., which was originally a Piggly Wiggly.The business was eventually sold to the Brown-Wynne family and is now owned by the McCarthy family. The longest-working employee started helping in the greenhouses 45 years ago and still works at the Saint Mary's Street location.Frank Campisi has managed that location for 20 years. Wednesday, March 31, 2021Country in Bloom, a floral shop and home decor store, which opened in November. Owner Karlee Smith previously worked in the wedding industry as a wedding coordinator and florist. Her intention was to have a pop-up shop for two months to test the waters, but with 95 per cent of its Christmas stock sold, her customers have given her the support to press forward for another six months. “I was super-nervous to open. We didn’t know what restrictions would come, when they would happen, or when things would change, so it was extremely nerve-wracking,” Smith told The News. “But I thought amidst the pandemic, why not take the plunge? I thought, let’s take a chance and see where I can go from here.” Her business partner is her mother-in-law, Sandra Lavorato Hipkin, who comes with the local fame of running Mulberry Manor, a home-based giftware and home decor business that was set up in her basement in the rural county.
