Fleurs de Villes: Free self-guided walk through downtown Vancouver's Christmas floral trail - Vancouver Is Awesome
Wednesday, March 31, 2021December with a stroll in downtown Vancouver highlighted by 30 beautiful fresh floral installations.It's the second annual Fleurs de Villes Noel Vancouver, a holiday celebration featuring top florists from around the city and their stunning displays, set up along Robson and Alberni streets. Use the map to follow the 'Floral Trail' as you walk past the stunning creations, displayed outdoors for all to enjoy. Be sure to adhere to social distancing best practices as you enjoy your self-guided stroll.Fluers de Villes takes places at various times of year in cities across the globe, from London to Seattle, as well as in several Canadian cities. Other Fleurs de Villes events have been curated around Vancouver over the past few years, though this is the second time there's been a Christmastime display. Grids have to be taped on top of colorful vases to hold up flowers during transportation. And, of course, flowers must be arranged in said vases for the special occasion.And though this year's Valentine Day is anomalous for multiple reasons — it's on a Sunday, a non-workday for many, and in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic — the 73-year-old flower shop is ready to do what it has done for nearly a year now: stay nimble and make special deliveries for its many customers.But like other holidays, COVID-19 continues to throw a wrench in everyone's plans."We really don't know what to expect," said Jessie Smith, lead designer for Susan's Florist. Now she cultivates plants and relationships at her charming North Side store. Phillips, a sixth-generation farmer, opened the business in 2012. She offers retail walk-in options, botanically inspired gifts, houseplants and full-service flower arrangements for events big and small. Flowers (the most requested stems are peonies and dahlias) are sourced from all over the world, including her farm outside of the city. Wednesday, March 31, 2021BOULDER, Colo. — Flowers arrangements and roses are moving fast at Boulder Gardens Florist as people pay their respects for the lives lost in the King Soopers mass shooing in Boulder Monday.Joshua Dusk is a florist at Boulder Gardens Florist. He’s been there for about a year but has 22 years of experience. He moves quickly with each arrangement, but behind every perfectly placed flower, there is intention.“You know, you can’t take it [the pain] away, but I get to be in a position where I can help that healing process with creative energy,” Dusk said. “I like using different colors to heal.”Calls have been pouring into Boulder Gardens Florist for arrangements and deliveries to the police departments, the memorial and the families of the victims.Heidi Lunsford, an employee at the flower shop, says flowers help people showcase their support and cope with the tragic loss at a time when many feel helpless.Aaron Pilling dropped by the shop and picked up ten red roses — one for each victim — and two bouquets of flowers.
