North Scottsdale Floral, business is coming up roses - azcentral.comTuesday, October 11, 2016
At the time, she was living out of a suitcase and staying with friends. After pulling the trigger, Rodger got calls asking if she delivered to Surprise and Sun City. Of course she did, she proclaimed."There was a huge learning curve because I didn't know the geography," Rodger says. "I didn't know how far it was and gas was $4 a gallon. I thought, 'What have I done?' I was crazy."But this year, Rodger is coming off her most successful Valentine's Day since she purchased the shop. Her roses draw customers from miles away, eager to pay a price for the coveted, quality blooms that she buys directly from growers. Here, she's carved a niche.Who's Who in Business 2014The seeds of Rodger's enthusiasm for horticulture were planted after her mother's death. Wanting to care for her mother's rosebushes, she bought a book to learn how and discovered she had a gift. She worked in garden shops, attended flower-arranging courses at night and was trained by the women who did the flowers for the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in 1986. She would go on to do many weddings and large corporate events at sea while working as a florist for Royal Caribbean International. After leaving her ocean-going life in 2005, Rodger visited Phoenix and fell in love with the desert. She decided she needed to live here. An immigration lawyer told her the best way to do that would be to purchase a business and stay on with a renewable entrepreneurial visa. For two years, Rodger pursued her dream, spending six months at a time here searching for a flower shop before heading back to England. With nine days left before she had to return from her last stay in Arizona, ... http://www.azcentral.com/story/money/business/2014/06/28/whos-who-arizona-business-2014-marg-rodger-north-scottsdale-floral/8740541/

Okanagan florists busy during pandemic, some busier than ever | iNFOnews | Thompson-Okanagan's News Source - iNFOnewsWednesday, March 31, 2021
COVID-19 pandemic has brought hard times onto some local businesses, Okanagan flower shops are busy — some say even busier than ever. The period around Easter and Mother’s Day is typically busy for florists, and despite current circumstances, this year is no exception. At Burnett’s Florist in Kelowna, business has been steady. “Our Easter was more busy than it usually is, and we’re hoping Mother’s Day is the same," florist Galena Clancy said. Kelowna’s Funky Petals, Harris Flower Shop in Vernon and Newell Flower Shop in Kamloops are all busy during the pandemic as well. "I think it's mostly because people are kind of communicating from a distance with flowers," Clancy said. Harris Flower Shop's Brenda Gedaschke says that many of her customers want to send flowers for birthdays, or just to cheer people up. Florists have shifted to accommodate current public health orders, offering online ordering and contactless delivery. Harris Flower Shop has even installed an honour bar outside their store, where customers can pick up arrangements and leave money in a locked collection box. “(The honour bar) has been spectacularly well received,” said Gedaschke, adding that there has only been one customer who didn’t leave enough money for their bouquet. The real challenge during the pandemic has been getting flowers from suppliers, Gedaschke said. "At this point everything is limited,” she said. “A lot of the import stuff, up until recently,... https://infotel.ca/newsitem/okanagan-florists-busy-during-pandemic-some-busier-than-ever/it72772

Once flowers have been cut, they have a short shelf-life where they either need to be sold or discarded. Lockdowns have put Amazing Graze Flowers and many florists into a less-than-desirable situation as they were forced to get rid of stock ordered in anticipation of flower delivery in Melbourne. The halt of events and weddings also had repercussions for local florists, reducing one of their most profitable revenue streams for close to a year. Now that gatherings are permitted, there are those who are making big orders again. However, local florists say that many have decreased their budget for flowers, opting to have a scaled-back version of the event they'd once imagined. On the other... https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/melbourne-florists-feel-the-force-of-the-pandemic-301243018.html
