7 Ways to Not Hate Valentine Day - D Magazine

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Dallas’ high-fashion luncheons, you’ve probably seen arrangements by Patricio Rivera of Twelve Thirty Four, a Honduran-born fashion designer turned florist extraordinaire. He spoke with us about the art of arranging, which he says is “all about emotion.”“I’d say focus on texture, focus on shape, and focus on colors. Like, I’ll take a picture of my vessel with my Pantone app and then that gives me a list of pairing colors to work from. Then I add my emotion to the design. But stay away from what’s expected. If you’re going to do a red rose, open it up to give it a different look. It’s called reflexing a rose. You let the roses sit for an hour outside water, then you pull the petals back one by one. For this arrangement, I used dahlias—my sister’s favorite flowers—and wheat. I’ve been asked, ‘Do you use weeds in your arrangemen... https://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2019/february/7-ways-to-not-hate-valentines-day/

Famed florists wed in lavish three-day celebration - Page Six

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Seema Bansal and Sunny Chadha of famed florist Venus et Fleur threw an over-the-top, flower-filled three-day wedding in Miami this weekend — that included a performance by DJ Khaled. The elegant Vizcaya Museum & Gardens played host to a pre-wedding ritual where the bride was given henna on her hands and feet. The traditional Sikh ceremony was held at the Biltmore Hotel, where the aisles were decked with white roses. The reception took place at the historic Alfred I. duPont Building, where guests were greeted by a string trio, flappers dressed in white, a flying acrobat who poured Champagne, and 150,000 red roses placed throughout the space.“Everyone was surprised when about 30 minutes into the reception, DJ Khaled came in,” said one attendee. “He rolled up in a Maybach Landaulet, congratulated the couple and performed snippets of eight songs! He stuck around for about 45 minutes.”The couple started their company — which claims to count Khaled, as well as various Kardashians and Hadids... https://pagesix.com/2018/12/31/famed-florists-wed-in-lavish-three-day-celebration/

Wild Things: More Than You would Expect From a Local Florist - StyleBlueprint

Sunday, February 10, 2019

As a teenager, Chicago native Carolyn Harbert had to choose a summer job. After learning her mother used to work for a florist, she decided to follow suit and give it a try. It was during that job, while assisting her local florist, that she discovered her passion for floral design and her gift for creativity. She took that artistic bent to college at Auburn University, where she earned her degree in graphic design, which in turn earned her a position at an advertising agency in Atlanta. While building her creative portfolio in Atlanta, she met her husband, a Birmingham native. The couple soon moved to Birmingham, where Carolyn dabbled in the freelance world of branding and logo design — but she had a nagging feeling that it wasn’t quite the job for her. She oftentimes found herself visiting local supermarkets to buy flowers to decorate her new home, but wished there was a local stop — both trendy and fun — that sold fresh arrangements, along with other pretty trinkets to pepper throughout a home and brighten someone’s day. Then one day she realized she should create this dr... https://styleblueprint.com/birmingham/everyday/wild-things-more-than-youd-expect-from-a-local-florist/

Wilmington florist gears up for busy Valentines Day - WWAY NewsChannel 3

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Valentine’s Day, Thursday, this year has many in the industry planning long days.- Advertisement - Dana and Jeff Cook, owners of Wilmington’s Julia’s Florist say that this year looks rosy.“In years past we have battled blizzards and ice storms so this year’s weather forecast was a joy to follow” Jeff Cook said. “With a Thursday Valentine’s Day you have many customers eager to display their flowers on work desks and many others taking advantage of early delivery on Wednesday or taking advantage of our free delivery for Valentines orders with Monday and Tuesday delivery. At Julia’s we are fortunate to have the volume of business allowing us to receive flowers direct from growers and delivered bi-weekly. But the next few scheduled deliveries will be many times our normal size.”Valentine’s Day for florists starts well in advance of the 14 and Jeff said he particularly enjoys following along as the flowers move from big rig trucks to his coolers and then from grower boxes to processing (chopping, separating, dipping) to fresh buckets of water and then to designers before going back to the coolers and to routers and delivery drivers.“Just the whole operation is a fascinating phenomenon that never gets old,” Cook said. “Of course the simple act of giving flowers is something many learn at a young age to never take for granted and owning a ... https://www.wwaytv3.com/2019/02/06/wilmington-florist-gears-up-for-busy-valentines-day/
