WRAL Small Business Spotlight: Fallon's Flowers celebrates 100 years in Raleigh - WRAL.com

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

By Jessica Patrick, WRAL multiplatform producerRaleigh, N.C. — Fallon's Flowers isn't just the oldest florist in Raleigh -- it's very likely the oldest in North Carolina, owners say. It was recognized by the public as the best, winning the best florist category in the 2020 WRAL Voters' Choice Awards. The company has been around for more than 100 years, since the Fallon family migrated to Raleigh in 1919 and began growing their own flowers in a series of greenhouses near Oakwood Cemetery. In 1920, the Fallons opened a retail shop on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, where they sold flowers for decades until they moved into the current building at 700 Saint Mary's St., which was originally a Piggly Wiggly. The business was eventually sold to the Brown-Wynne family and is now owned by the McCarthy family. The longest-working employee started helping in the greenhouses 45 years ago and still works at the Saint Mary's Street location.Frank Campisi has managed that location for 20 years. He said, while the ownership has changed, the family focus remains the same."I talk to customers who... https://www.wral.com/wral-small-business-spotlight-fallon-s-flowers-celebrates-100-years-in-raleigh/19595753/

Bloomin’ good: Clinton florist business is awards finalist - 100 Mile House Free Press

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

I’m still trying to make heads or tails out of it. I’ve never been very good at honouring myself, but I’m very proud, and very thankful, to whoever nominated me.”Lawrence began working at a florist shop in Prince Rupert when she was 14, and continued until she went off to college for theatre school. At that point, she put flowers aside, but found they kept coming back to her: “I did my own wedding flowers, and flowers for friends.” Finally, at her mother’s encouragement, she decided to go for it, and Bubbles’ Blossom Design was born in time for Mother’s Day 2018.When Lawrence and her husband Jordan moved to Clinton in October 2016, she realized a florist shop was something the area needed.“At first I thought I’d research it for a couple of years, see how it goes, see how much interest there was, but then I decided just to jump in and do it. If an opportunity comes along you jump in with both feet.”READ MORE: Clinton hires new Chief Administrative OfficerShe says that the overhead was low: “I bought a used cooler and a couple of buckets, so it was an easy thing to do.” Until recently she worked out of her kitchen and dining-room, but last year an extension was added to the back of their house at the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Cariboo Highway for a small storefront.Lawrence nearly sold out of flowers that first Mother’s Day, and she says that the support from the community has been incredible. “It was a great initial reception, and I have the best customers. It was all by word of mouth and Facebook.”The business has since expanded beyond Clinton, with Lawrence delivering orders to Cache Creek and Ashcroft.“My end goal is to have ... https://www.100milefreepress.net/news/bloomin-good-clinton-florist-business-is-awards-finalist/

Texas Florist Who Admitted to Being in Pelosi’s Office Wants Case Moved from D.C. Because of ‘Cancel Culture’ - Law & Crime

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Washington, D.C. because of “cancel culture.” The defense for Texas florist Jenny Louise Cudd, who was on video happily admitting to being in the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, asserted authorities were creating the “illusion” of a conspiracy between her and Eliel Rosa by linking their cases.“According to the Government’s Statement of Facts, the two were seen on security footage walking into the building, walking around, and walking out,” attorney Marina Medvin said in a filing Wednesday. “There is no evidence of communications or a plan between the two to enter the Capitol. Instead, the evidence is purported to be that they were at the same place, at the same time, followed a crowd into the open doors of the Capitol building, then walked out. They didn’t take anything, they didn’t break anything.”Cudd was among rioters raiding the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, after then-President Donald Trump continued to lie that he actually won the 2020 presidential election. The invaders postponed but did not prevent Congress for counting electoral college votes weighing in favor of the real winner, President Joe ... https://lawandcrime.com/u-s-capitol-siege/texas-florist-who-admitted-to-being-in-pelosis-office-wants-case-moved-from-d-c-because-of-cancel-culture/

7 Important Things to Consider Before Ordering Flowers Online - Hurricane Valley Times

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Delivery AreaEven though online florists provide an extremely accessible flower buying experience, not every florist can ensure delivery to every single part of the US. For example, if you or your giftee live in a more isolated part of the country, like in a remote area or a rural location, florists can’t guarantee that your flowers can be delivered in the best condition. Not all florists have the same exact shipping capabilities. Some can deliver to more addresses than others, so it’s important to look at more than one online store. Before you officially place your order, be sure to confirm that the provider you want can actually send it over to your target address.2. Delivery SpeedGift giving is certainly no easy task. That’s why flowers always come in as the most reliable solution anytime you’re stuck on what to do. They make for an easy grab on a quick trip to your local florist or supermarket. However, the situation might be a little different for ordering online. That’s because not all websites can provide fast last-minute flower deliveries. If you’re running out of time and need your bouquet to be shipped as soon as possible, ensure that your selected vendor can do same-day or next-day delivery.3. Professional AffiliationThere are plenty of florists that are involved with a floral wire service such as FTD, Teleflora, and several others. These wire services are essentially established companies that work at the center of all the order exchanges and fulfillment between local florists and third-party sale agents.Additionally, many other vendors are also affiliated with other industry groups and trade organizations, such as The Society of American Florists. When it comes to picking out a vendor, it’s in your best interest to rank those that professionally affiliate with these floral wire services, groups, and organizations higher. That’s because they can signify a commitment to the craft, a level of professionalism, and heightened credibility.4. Payment OptionsNowadays, there are far more options to pay for gifts than cash alone. That’s especially true for online purchases. While you can always use the most popular method of using a credit card to pay for your flowers, some flower delivery services have actually expanded the number of payment methods they can accept. How about that for inclusivity and convenience? If you’d rather pay with PayPal, Bitcoin, or in whatever alternative way you prefer, you can scout out some of the flower vendors that can accommodate you the best.5. PricingWithout a doubt, pricing should be one of the top factors to consider when ordering flowers on the web. That’s where you may need to step in with a little research, because not every flower vendor will offer the same prices. Some may be conveniently cheaper than others, but never sacrifice good quality for a low bargain. How to care for gifted Easter flowers - WTOP

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

Soon, it will be time to hit your local florist or grocery store to pick out flowers for your holiday celebration — whether you’re seeing someone in person, or simply dropping off well wishes. This year, florists have seen more curbside deliveries and loose flowers as gifts, opposed to traditional centerpiece orders for family dinner tables, but the desire for customary flowers like Easter lilies, tulips and hyacinths has not changed.“Potted Easter lilies and tulips are very popular this time of year,” said Missy Willson, owner of My Enchanted Florist in Sandy Spring, Maryland. “Stock flowers in lavenders, pinks and soft pastel shades are also popular. It’s a very fragrant flower and the colors are perfect for Easter.”Willson said if you end up with potted lilies, they like to be in bright light, but they need to be kept in a cool area.“The soil should be dry to the touch — because if you overwater them, you’ll kill the plant. Leaves will start to turn yellow and then they start to die.”Other popular flowers available for Easter include daffodils, hyacinth, grape hyacin... https://wtop.com/holidays/2021/03/how-to-care-for-gifted-easter-flowers/
