Floral-shop killer has behaved in prison. The parole board wasn't impressed. - SILive.comThursday, May 02, 2019
Supreme Court, St. George.Witnesses identified him as being outside the store just minutes before the shooting, and wearing the same clothes as the culprit, the Advance reported.Witnesses inside the shop said a man wearing a gray hoodie, dark sunglasses and a red bandanna walked in and fired once. The shooter ran out after an exchange of gunfire that ended with DeMarco, the father of two young children, slumped behind the counter.Morales' sister-in-law testified she overheard conversations about the crimes and saw the defendant in possession of a gun.The firearm, which prosecutors said was a .44-caliber Magnum, was never found. At the defendant's sentencing, a justice told Morales his half-brother, Roberto Gonzalez, the getaway car driver, had implicated himself and Morales in a confession to police.Gonzalez’s admission, however, was not used against Morales at trial.Still, Morales remained resolute, maintaining his innocence, despite the conviction."I stand before you convicted, but I am totally innocent of the charges, Your Honor," Morales told the judge. Steven Morales was sentenced to 25 years to life in June of 1993. Gonzalez, 52, was also convicted of murder in November 1993. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison and was paroled last year after three prior denials. In its report, the parole board commended Morales for his personal growth, productive use of time, positive disciplinary record and progress while incarcerated. The board also lauded him for completing all mandatory programs while behind bars and for participating in volunteer programs. Still, the panel said those factors weren’t enough to spring Morales. The victim's slaying during the course of an attempted robbery represented a “tragic escalation” of Morales’ criminal history which includes a prior felony conviction for shooting another person, the board noted.“A review of your records, a personal interview and deliberation lead the panel to conclude that release at this time is incompatible with the welfare of society,” wrote the board.Morales can re-apply for parole in October 2020. https://www.silive.com/news/2019/04/floral-shop-killer-has-behaved-in-prison-the-parole-board-wasnt-impressed.html
Michigan Floral Association is now Great Lakes Floral Association - PerishableNewsThursday, May 02, 2019
GLFA). Nothing has changed except for the name. Our mission statement has dropped the word Michigan but otherwise remains the same: To provide education and professional partnerships to advance business and position our colleagues at the forefront of the floral industry. The idea for a name change first emerged at last years strategic planning meeting. The Board of Directors wanted to be more welcoming and more inclusive to anyone in our region who would like to become part of the association, hence the name change seamed logical. They were primarily thinking of those industry members to the south and east where retail floral education and professional industry partnerships are getting hard to find.As the Association moves forward into our second century we embrace change and look forward to welcoming industry members from near and far. Our goal is to make you feel welcome and part of the Great Lakes Floral Association family. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at the GLFA office (517) 575-0110 or visit our newly redesigned website at www.greatlakesfloralassociation.orgThe Great Lakes Floral Association is a full-service trade organization representing more than 400 florists, growers, and wholesalers. She was assessed in theoretical knowledge of advanced design styles and techniques. She was required to create three “advanced design” arrangements during a timed test.
Internationally recognized floral industry professionals evaluated these advanced designs. Muenstermann is one of only five florists in Illinois to earn this accreditation.
She earned her title of Illinois certified professional florist during last year’s annual floral design show. She is one of 58 florists in the state to earn this distinction. She is working toward her national certified floral designer accreditation through the internationally recognized American Institute of Floral Designers.
To maintain the Illinois certified designer accreditation, the designer must continue to accumulate continuing education credits each year and maintain his or her membership in the ISFA and ICPF program.
This program is designed to give ICPF graduates the opportunity to develop and broaden their knowledge of the floral industry and enhance the professionalism of Illinois florists.

'A handful of little carnations': Customers complain Bloomex's bouquets don't always arrive as advertised - CBC.caTuesday, April 16, 2019
I ordered flowers for my grandmother's 81st birthday a few days in advance and paid the extra shipping to make sure it would be delivered on her actual birthday," said Sage Daniels. "My grandma finally got the irises after two weeks. They never opened … and died with in three days."Bloomex offered a credit for the late flowers, Daniels said, but refused to cover the additional delivery cost.Because of a Bloomex bouquet, Katrin Chitaroni said she spent much of the funeral for her best friend's parents picking up petals off the carpet."The chrysanthemums were so dry and old that they had their heads hanging down.… It was embarrassing."JudyAnn Jensen said she used Bloomex to send a "gourmet" gift basket and planter to family friends who just buried their parents. The items that were included were digestive cookies, sour soothers, Bigfoot candies and a box of Triscuits — none of which are pictured in the baskets advertised on Bloomex's website.JudyAnn Jensen calls the products Bloomex sent as a condolence 'gourmet' gift basket on her behalf 'absolutely embarrassing and unacceptable.' (JudyAnn Jensen)When Jensen complained, Bloomex told her that in the "unlikely event" the company is sold out of a particular product, "we are able to substitute with another similar product."Jensen calls that explanation unacceptable. "I don't believe digestive [cookies], Triscuits and sour suckers are remotely close to 'similar products,' let alone the nature of sending such items to a family who just buried both their elderly parents." Marketplace shared the findings of its delivery test with Bloomex, including photos and general delivery locations. The company declined an interview, stating it needed more information. But in letters sent through a lawyer, Bloomex stated that "flowers are perishabl... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/online-florist-delivery-marketplace-1.4913560
Five Couples Escape the Familiar for Destination Weddings - Louisville.comTuesday, April 16, 2019

Suit from JoS. A. Bank.“The lifesaver to planning my wedding was Instagram,” Brooke says. “I would search hashtags of Charleston weddings. When you plan a destination wedding, you can cut costs by getting married on a weekday — venues are almost half the cost on a Thursday! I was under the impression that planning a destination wedding can be a way to cut costs — less people? — and that is false. I went significantly over my budget due to traveling and adding small details to make my guests more comfortable. And I came home with too many personalized koozies and ChapSticks, so that’s a detail I may have left out. It was the best time having all of my favorite people on the beach just relaxing for days before and after. I strongly suggest having a large area for people to hang out. We rented a large house with a pool. So fun!”Hannah Sells & Geoff LyversWed on July 21, 2018Lost River Cave, Bowling GreenPhotographer: Zoe DannenmuellerHairstylist: Kimberly Spears (and helping hand throughout the day)Attire: Ivory and stone Galina tank ball gown with layered tulle skirt from David’s Bridal and white high-top Converse. If you choose somewhere in nature, you don’t even need to buy decorations. If you’re worried about celebrating with or including friends and family, just have a reception after the elopement. Your wedding day and wedding planning are both as hard and as stressful as you make them be.”Kaitlan Bondurant & Robin HerringtonWed on October 20, 2018?Cliffview Lodge, Red River Gorge, Campton, KentuckyPhotographer: Mickie WintersFlowers: Bel-Air Florist, Versailles, KentuckyAttire: Dress from Madison James.
